I currently shoot with a Nikon d300s, tamron 28-75 f2.8, nikon 50mm f1.8 and a nikon 70-210 f3.5-5.6 zoom lens. I used to be a canon shooter 350d,30d and 50d but wanted something with better autofocus hence the d300s. Now i like the d300s but i miss the files from my canon cameras and the way they work/feel (nikons are all backwards).
I have the chance to sell my nikon equipment and buy 2 1d mk2s (im looking to get a back up body either way) and some glass, 50mm f1.4 and a 28-135 is.

Do you think im doing the right thing ? or am i mad. I just think that the 1d mk2's will give me the speed, build and quality i need (im sure 8mp is more than enough for me) I would have two great cameras instead of one and i will know my way around them.

all opinions welcome.:)

As a Canon user for ten years and currently using mk3's I dont think you can wrong with mk2's. However they are now "old" by todays standards yet still perfectly usable in 99% of situations.

The AF on the D300S is superior in every respect to the Canon MKII, its the exact same AF system in the D3 and high ISO results are probably 2 stops better as well

The fact that you think everything is backwards on a Nikon suggests that you might be better off going back to Canon.

But:
- Is there *really* any value to you in having two bodies?
- How important is the AF performance, and other aspects such as high-ISO performance, versus familiarity with the controls?

Gary do you really think the D300 is 2 stops better in ISO than the 1D mk2? I've owned both and would say that at up to 800 the canon is superior and as for AF I don't think there is that much in it. I'd be happier printing at A3+ with a 1D mk2 than a D300. This is of course IMHO...

According to dxomark the canon 1d mk2 has a better iso performance. I dont know if that is true in a real world situation as i have never shot one, im hoping you guys can help me with that.
Im sure both cameras will give great results as long as the photographer knows how to use them but im thinking this is my last chance for the forseeable future to make a change and i think i would be happier shooting a canon system.
I cannot explain it, it just feels so strange when shooting with the d300s.

Thanks

I was amazed by it's performance for a 6 year old design, I'd say t was a wash between it and the 5d which I'd happily use to 1600, I'm not a fan of the 1.5 and 1.6 crop cameras, if nothing else he viewfinder on the 1d is much nicer to use.if it was me I'd get the two 1d mk2s
