Yes
Just got my Elinchrom D lIte 2's and they are a great pair of lamps. Was just wondering about getting a third light. Is it worth purchasing another? I will be doing mainly portrait stuff at home etc..

A third light is useful and especially as a background light if that's the sort of portraits you'll be doing but you can do lots of really great stuff with just the two you have.

It all depends on what you're wanting to do I guess.

Also, pretty much any old thing you can pick up will probably do as a no.3

Start taking shots with ONE light - and get great results - build up after that. Remember every light you add may add shadows and complications. You can get great results with one light or a hundred - but start simply!
