Hi all,

Just found 2 cameras down the local antiques shop and managed to grab a couple of photos for identifying them & research.

First one: Yashica 635

Price tag says £95 and includes the 35mm adapter.

Second one:

Phone camera is terrible. However, after some googling I think its the Zeiss Ikon Nettar 518/16 III like the one here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/rydcoco/1093732277/
It's priced at £32.

Would like to add them to the collection but would like to know more about them, are they worth the money? Easy to operate/maintain? Anyone any examples of photos taken with them?

I couldn't see them up close as they didn't have access to the cabinet at that time. Any info about either of them very gratefully received :)

The Yashica is a nice TLR, it's simple to operate and everything is fairly self explanatory. I wouldn't personally pay extra for the adaptor and I've never used mine. I think I have an example shot with it somewhere online, I'll post if I can find it

Unlike the 124 it has no meter so that's something to bear in mind. Price wise I don't know if that's good or bad, but I would pay that for one if I lost mine

The Yashica sounds about right for retail prices, the same with the Zeiss. You might find either of these cheaper elsewhere or at another time.. but you could have a long wait unless you get lucky ;)

If you're buying them retail you want to check the basics, as with any old camera it's the slow shutter speeds tend to fail. So give them a test.

By the way, what's the one to the left of the Yashica? It looks like it might be a Kodak Retina III. That could be worth a look as well.

Hi Harvey,

These aren't by any chance at Dagfields are they as they look very familiar?

It most certainly was :) I'd found a few Kodaks in the other antique rooms but condition was questionable, still tempted to add them to my old kodak pocket camera.

Spotted these two in one of the very front shops, didn't find my my mum a 50th present though, she lives there!

Alastair, Im not sure what that one is, but there was a Canon one on the shelf beside it, but didn't seem anything special. I might go back for another nosey.

I have seen a couple of nettars in very good nick for about £15, but maybe I struck lucky.

I've got a Yashica 635, it's a decent camera but the shutter speeds do get very iffy with age. I've not got the adaptor or a case for mine though. These are taken with it, please excuse the scratches though :)
