This isn't the photo sharing section but thought I'd post here for a bit of fun for you.

Was at my youngest's school sports awards last night. Have camera will photograph.

I was at the back of the hall with the 70-200 on and was trying to get a few shots of Steve Bennett the ex Premiership/International ref who was giving out the awards.

Here he is giving his speech. Not using flash as I was trying to get him lit up with the spotlight. ISO 2500 F2.8 and 1/320th

I then took a few more like that of the master announcing the awards. Steve Bennett by now was at the other side of the stage in virtual darkness. I had already fired a few test shots and decided on ISO 200 F4 and 1/300th with the flash on full power.

So the master announces my son as the Sportsman of the Year. I waited for him to walk on stage then shot one of the master shaking his hand. All he has to do now is walk across the stage to Steve for the handshake and get his award.

So I am sure you can guess which nob forgot to change his setting :bang:

I think this is a little more than 'blowing the highlights' !!!

Anyway it was too late after I had realised. So grabbed son and went up to Steve to explain I had cocked up. He was smashing and reposed for the shot.

Lesson to self. Don't be a d*ck and concentrate at all times.....

You saved the day, and a super pic for the memory box. Good for you for asking!

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise then, as the first "blown" shot, there was a boy's head coming out of the shoulder :D

My favourite one at the moment is forgetting to change from f2.8 to f6.3 for the team celebration shots at the end of the finals that I've been doing. Luckily I have remembered in time and while they are still jumping around quickly changed the settings :)

The second picture's a better shot anyway. Sometimes the Gods do smile!

Thanks Carol. Now if said son could knuckle down to a bit more school work then I'd be as they say in the vernacular 'well pleased'.

Thanks Mark.

Kelly it's not as if it was a big change but I need to get the destructions out and figure out the My Menu settings as that could be useful in future.

To be fair you'd have had a bit of a duff shot if you hadn't messed it up as there is some random in the back  so maybe it's a good job that you had to stage it  and really good that he was willing to do so of course as if that had not been the case you would have really been kicking yourself :bonk:

Damn I type to slowly :(

Thanks Mark.

I'm the same. I have my manual in my bag to sit and read on the coach commute (plus the bits you sent me too) but I tend to just sleep instead

Mathew if he hadn't I would be swinging from one of the trees in the garden by now.

Last weekend on football tour I decided the take stills instead of video. Said son scores a cracker from 30 yards out. I was in the wrong place to photograph it and video would have been so much better.

As this worked out okay I do need to learn the lesson from it though.

All the gear and no idea...

but I tend to just sleep instead
