1st canvas print advice

Hi all looking at a canvas print as a birthday present for my sister have gone for the below photo, would just like some advice on if I need to edit anything before I send the photo off...

Advice would be great :)

what are you planning to do about the edges, because if you print on canvas you will probably have to stretch the image so it wraps around the edge, and because the main details are so close to the edge, you won't be able to do that

so you'd either have to just print it on the front surface and leave the edges as raw canvas
or you'd have to pay a talented artist (hello) to draw in the missing parts of the image and give you 2 inches of extra canvas for wrapping

or you could just not print onto canvas...

Good point about the edges, ive sent it off to be printed now. I will contact the seller and let him know to leave the edges blank.

Iam thinking that would look better in this instance anyway, what do you think?

I have to admit to not being a fan of canvas printing, as the boyfriend of a painter I see many many paint splattered canvas' and the idea of putting a photo onto that surface seems kitsch to me, I don't know why people are so into the idea of a photo on canvas, I guess it gives some sort of 'arty' hand crafted feel but I think a nice box frame with lustre photo paper looks better

anyway to answer your question i'd either fill the edges with a color, like maybe take the red from the girls headband, or a dark brown, or just leave the edges as raw canvas, but then it depends on the canvas they use- painters canvas is usually slightly yellow, but canvas for printing is whiter- and I think white around the edge of the picture may look strange, I'd probably ask them to fill it with a very light yellow if their canvas is very white.
 
Most canvas printing firms will print the edges a solid colour if you want. Generally leaving blank isn't a great plan as you see a rough edge where the printed part ends and meets the un-printed canvas.

Having said that, given the soft pastel colours in the image it might work quite well for this.
