My girlfriend asked me to take some product shots for a project she has at work. These are my first attempt and I'm OK withthem - but just OK.

Apart from using the right product (not a pad with a dent in it) does anyone have any thoughts on how I can improve these. I thought one or two might work with a black background for starters.

I used a light tent with 5000k lamps on each side and a 50mm lens.

All constructive suggestions are welcomed.

They look pretty good to me.
Might say that they could take a little more colour/sats and a heavier sharpen, but not much else

Ive done a bit of product photography before and I like the lighting you have established. Some of the photos appear a tiny bit blurred/out of focus. Is it the nifty 50 ur using? as this should be very sharpe!

Canon 50mm f/1.4.

I agree, the pens particularly look blurred, shot at f/11 and my AF point was on the pad so I guess I should try closing the aperture a wee bit.

The lighting's good, AB. But, like the guys say, the pens are out of the DoF. They're also not perfectly spaced, aligned, in the set. That distracts. As the imperfect line-up of the playing cards does. And the green pen's just off angle relative to the 'wallet'. Unneccessarily awkward.

Close, but no cigar.

But if this was your first real live one: kudos! You did as well as can be expected! Hang in there! Next time will be perfect!

Your lighting and composition look good, however as others say they are a little blurry. Try raising your shutter speed as its showing very low ie 1/3 on some shots and even with the camera tripod mounted would be difficult not to get motion blur.

Thanks for the input.

We'd already decided to reshoot these and have another 20 or so to do - so your comments are very welcome.
