I've decided to have a play with HDR/Tone Mapping. The image below has been generated from 3 exposures taken in RAW. The camera settings were all f11 iso200. The software was the free version of Dynamic-Photo HDR.

There appears to be a lot of noise added as part of the process. Is this a result of an admittedly quite heavy process or is there something I'm missing?

Any advice gratefully recieved :thankyou:

sorry hit post to quick :bang::bang:

Wow, nice picture  Not overdone at all.

Noise  Looks like its on a canvas background to me.

Sorry I cant be of any help as I know nothing on HDR :shake:

Thanks Byrhtnoth glad you like.

I had a similar problem when I was using one raw file to create the HDR. I am no expert but it occurred to me to check the ISO setting, Just a thought and I found mine was set at 800.

For minimum noise it's best to use ISO 100 Or lower if you're lucky enough to have that option.

Some fantastic clouds there though

Was this from 1 RAW file? As Jo said, the lower the ISO the better.

Thanks for the interest. They were three seperate raw files, but were at ISO 200.

They were also handheld as I didn't have the tripod when the picture presented itself.:bang:

As some others have said, the noise in this picture almost gives it a sense of being painted on canvas. Which could be quite a nice effect, but not something you want to happen everytime you process an HDR image.

Have you tried running the raw files through another freeware version, like photomatix? If you get the same noise with a similalry treated picture then it probably was the ISO, if not maybe its the software you used originally.

It's a lovely picture though, great view.

I've downloaded the free version of photomatix but it's much more limited in what it'll let you do, so I haven't been able to replicate it. I'll try a less aggresive pp and see.

Thanks, it was seeing the hdr of your parents house that inspired me to have a go at this again, so feel free to take some credit:thumbs:

Ta very much but I can't take any credit for the original shot :) But if you sell any of the HDR versions can I have 10%? ;)

hmm selling images:thinking: not sure I'm good enough for that step yet.

Maybe one day tho, you'll have to wait for the commission:lol:

damn how did that happen:bang::lol:
