Yes
I have been invited to go down and take photos of a local cup final in a couple of weeks. I went along to the same thing last year, but other than that i have no other experience of sport photography.

Last year, i had a 40d and a 70-200 f4 and don't think i did too terribly, until the light started falling and i had to give up.
Here is one from last year.

But for this year, i have upgraded my 70-200 to the f2.8 is version, and i also have a 1dii.

The 1d i haven't really used much, it sits in my cupboard getting in the way most of the time. :bonk:
But i understand there is quite a lot of flexibility built into it, i often hear of people setting up the AF for different scenarios and the like.
I don't have the manual for it, but would anyone be able to give me a brief overview of what added flexibilities it has over other cameras, and how i might be able to optimise any settings for football?

Thanks :)

Thanks. I do expect it to do a much better job than before as it is.
I was Just wondering with it being a 'pro' camera, if any of the additional features it has will be of use to me.

I will get a copy of the manual and read up on it.

Cheers.

I use both the MKIIn and MKIII, it is a bit of a learning curve from the 40D, but with the faster af speed and higher iso you should do well

Well Dave if you do use the 1DMKII then I will expect to see your 40D up for sale very, very soon as I doubt you will want to go back to it.

I'd disagree with that. Only ditch a body if you have to, especially as the 40D is capable of taking very good photos. You never know when a spare might come in handy!

I have a 40D and a 1DII at the moment.

In bad light with the ISO up - there's not much between them noise wise.

Where the 1DII really outperforms the 40D is the AF speed and tracking moving subjects.

Download the 1DII PDF user manual and read up on the custom functions - in particular C.Fn-17-1/2 - the use of the expanded 'assist' AF points - 7 of them (in one shot mode) or 13 of them (in AI Servo mode) around your chosen AF point. You'll find it helps when your subject's movement in unpredictable.

Yeah, after I posted it Mark I realised he could use the 40D as a 2nd body.

What I wanted to say was that if you use something better than you have already got then some people keep the best one and get rid of the other one.

Yup, I realised that and wasn't having a dig! :D

I know that Mark, anyway us thick southerners got to stick together.

Whoops, i think i may have caused a bit of confusion.
I don't actually have the 40d any more, i chopped that in for a 5d quite a while ago which is what i use every day. But then i also got the 1d, without ever really having a need for it.

Thanks for the heads up. I will look closer into those bits. Thanks. :)
