Just wondering, does anyone actually use the audio recording function at all on their camera? I've never used it personally but just curious if anyone else does. Its an interesting gizmo but where/how is the sound info stored, does it fill up your card loads? I do jot down any notes that seem relevant, such as place names or animals spotted etc. but a voice-over of an image - nope.
 
Ive never used it, I can see it being useful instead of taking notes but i dont even bother with that most of the time, im a lazy sod.
 
I've never used it either. If I did it would compel me to use the Canon software which I try to avoid doing at all costs. Not that I can think of any use for it personally, but no doubt it's invaluable for some users.
 
i used to attach audio to the pics usung my fuji s5600. Was a good feature and usefull some times.

As fo how much it takes up. Try it!
Mine took up very little room.
 
A couple of agency snappers I have worked with use them to record goal/try scorers or things of note at a soccer/rugby match. Seems like a usefull tool - I cant wait to get this camera and really should have bought one by now but I may wait until early 2007 to see how the land lies with new machines....
 
Does it attach a file to an individual pic or is it a file in between two shots? Could actually be handy for me if it's the latter.
 
My old kodak does the voice recording. The sound is actually part of the jpg file not another file. No idea if the 1d is similar though. Was a useful feature.

On the fuji its another file.
 
Just had a play..... :D

It saves a .wav file called the same as the photo name.

The files are quite small, 4seconds=43kb and 30sec(Max)=240kb
 
I'm pretty sure that while 30secs is max, you can just press the button again for another 30 secs so you're only limited by your card size. :D

Aye, id expect thats probably true, but I can say "I bet thats going to look a bit poo when I get it into Aperture....." enough times in 30secs to make no differance.

I wish I had the time to learn more about taking good photos...... :(
 
I have the same fuction on my D2x's - I use it occasionally if I'm doing ad-hoc 'Local Boy Stories' as it saves time writing all of the (usually 25 people) names down after each shot - I can just say "Private Barry Bloggs" or whatever while I press the record button while reviewing the image.
If I'm expecting to do one of these jobs, I get them all to fill in a Pro-Forma with all their info on it first - this also counts as a 'Model Release' of sorts, even though military subjects have no say in being photographed by military photographers.

It's also the only time I'll ever shoot other than RAW - there are sometimes so many people to get through that I have no option then shoot JPEG-High - there's almost always enought time to do a custom WB beforehand.

Ta Dreeder, that'll save me checking file no's and writing them into a soggy notebook :thumbs:
