We have a 8 month old 1D MKIV (bought new). It went on a shoot last week (with L lenses) where it was raining.

Near the end of the shoot, the main display on the camera flickered then stopped working. At home, the camera was taken apart (battery out, lenses off etc) and left. A couple of hours later, it was switched on and worked for a minute or so but then gave an 'err 70'. You couldn't select the drive and the display still wasn't working.

Switched it off, left it over night. Next day, it all works perfectly (and still is working perfectly). The question is what happened, and what if anything should we do now.

Thanks.

Were you shooting tethered and have you tried removing the small back up battery?

i have a mk4 (also bought new in march this yr in the UK)

It's been in use weekly since purchase outdoors shooting sporting events, 2 weeks back it was used sunday (partly wet) tuesday, wednesday (wet) Friday (wet) sunday (wet) at the end of sunday i was reviewing the last few images and the rear lcd faded in and out but was OK. On the tuesday it was dead, left it for a week and on the sunday it was still dead, so used a 40d to edit - the images were fine, but it was like shooting film, and the manner in which i was shooting required editing before download.
Dropped the body into canon at Elstree tuesday AM it was back with me friday am via UPS - Gold level cps came good, and carriage was FOC. The job sheet reads that the LCD unit was replaced

Thanks.

I think we will send it off to be safe (otherwise it will fail one week outside of warranty!)
