Hi, I'm looking to buy a 17 - 50 mm lens for my Canon 5D, on a low budget, so considering brands such as Tamron, Sigma, etc. I'm a bit confused with the specifications i find about these lenses, though, as it seems that although, for instance regarding the Tamron one, it says 17 - 50 mm, the minimum focal length is 26mm instead of 17.
This is the review that I have read: http://www.vistek.ca/store/CameraLe...-xr-diii-xr-ld-asl-lens-for-canon-w-hood.aspx, and this is what it says about the focal length: Lightweight, Compact Fast Standard Zoom Lens is Designed Exclusively for Digital SLR Cameras, with 17mm Wide Angle Coverage
Exclusive design for digital SLR cameras achieves a fast standard zoom lens that covers virtually the same angles as focal lengths of 26-78mm when converted to a 35mm format. As I'm looking for a versatile lens with a wide angle to shoot weddings, I would like it to start effectively at 17mm. Also I fear that using it on a 5D there will be a visible vignette.
Any thoughts, suggestions about other lens options?
Thank you very much!

PS: I have just tried my old tamron 17 - 50 mm XR Di II SP lens that I use on my 7D and although the angle becomes wider than in the 7D, which i didn't expect, the image shows a circle outside which the photograph is black.
Thanks again!

These lenses are designed for crop sensor dslr. I couldn't tell you how the work on FF with regards to vignetting. They might be okay, they might not. I'd suggest a 17-40mm f4 l which is great value for money. If you stretch, try get a 16-35mm f2.8 mk I

Yeah, you really don't want to be buying a 17-50mm lens for your camera, basically it won't work.

You need a 28-75mm (or similar), Tamron do those too and they're great lenses, 28mm on your camera should be wide enough for most uses.
