This is the biggest pike I have ever seen. :eek:

Poor thing, was it returned with little more than shock and a painfull mouth?

I could be wrong but, Pike are one of the few fish you aren't supposed to put back..?
I caught a Jack Pike once, slightly smaller cousin, long long time ago, the gamekeeper wouldn't let me put it back.....eats other fish:shrug:

wished I hadn't caught it in the end:(
 
I never caught it!

I was at a local lake hoping to take some pics of the pen and her cygnets and this bloke had caught this monster!

He never put back and said it was more than likely responsible for the demise of some ducklings. :(
 
Amazing catch ... biggest pike I ever caught (on a bobbing lure) was about 9lb in the Ryhill Res many years ago!

Nasty buggers - would dive like hell! A real game fish :thumbs:

Nowt no worse than catching slimey 'dustbin lids'.

Those of you that are into fishing will know what I mean!!

That is shocking. :(
As an angler these creatures are superb, regardless of the nature of your pleasure!!
This will probably have been a 8yr old fish.. who is to say any ducklings would live that long!! heaven forbid that one anmial would have the audacity to eat another????

My first ever fish caught was a 7lb pike a scaling dam. Using a worm and sweetcorn lol.

Its illegal to kill coarse fish is it not !

Not sure if it is illegal but certainly best practise is to put em back:shrug:
 
ah yeah, im not too sure, just what i thought, and most coarse fish you woundnt want to eat anyway !

must of em taste like mud.

Had a recipe for Bream once, it went on and on far ages about wrapping it in paper and adding loads of herbs etc.

The last line said "Throw away Bream and eat paper!":lol:

DEFINATELY NOT - The ONLY time you should kill a pike is if you are taking it for the table ( around 6LB only anything bigger will not taste nice) and not just for the sake of killing it - i have fished for pike for 30yrs and they are an amazuingly powerful fish that are killed for no reason by far to many people because of urban legends. I have seen 30lb pike that some ******** has just chucked up the bank and left to rot complete w*****s.

This guy must have been a complete idiot - Cats kill many thousand birds each year but i dont go around shooting them ! its called nature.

when I was a kid my dad bought a river fish home for tea, it was disgusting despite following the cook book to the letter
 
I love fishing, can't do it in Germany cos I haven't done the Exam! :| Anyone who kills a native species is a ideiot and should be banned for life. Stocked trout the exceptions here. Jack Pike are actually just juvenile pike...

Nice picture, RIP,...biggest I ever had was 15lbs and I caught it on 1lb bayer perlon bottom and a size 18 hook! Played it for an hour...I was stoked. The fish went back, as always to do what nature intended! I hate ducks anyway.

Turns out it was handed into the local Polish club. Apparently they love them!
 
I've eaten river pike - not sure about one from a lake though, would definitely taste a bit "earthy". In Europe they eat a lot of course fish because they are so far from the sea - fresh, non frozen fish has to come from local rivers.

As far as I'm aware, it's not illegal to remove fish from a river, BUT it is definitely an offence to put them in!

And I doubt if a Pike that size has taken ducklings, there's plenty of easier prey around this time of year. Older slower fish would tend to take things like ducklings.

This Nikkor 300mm f2.0 weighs about the same as that fish,

the only difference is, if i caught the lens, i would definately chuck it back in ;)
