This weeks, the challenge is...

THINGS THAT FLY!

This can be anything that flies - from birds and bees to frisbees and aeroplanes - and anything in between. They don't have to be flying in the photo.

Usual rules apply:

All entries must be new photos, taken within the timeframe of the comp.
Maximum of 3 entries per person.
Limited PP, cropping, exposure control, sharpening etc is okay, multi layered cut and pasting is not.
The winner chooses the theme for the following challenge

Entries can be posted from 8pm on Thursday 7th until 8pm on Sunday 10th May, with the winner announced later that evening.

Have fun!

Jenny

Every time I read the theme for the weekly challenge I think to myself 'I took a great picture on that theme ... last week'

It's a good theme, I'm in this time :)

*wipes hand on forehead, that at least if I have no idea I have a fallback plan*

I know what you mean - my bluebell photos were not as good as those taken the previous week, but I could not use them!

Looking forward to your entry.

Jenny

I will be unable to enter as I am away from tomorrow evening until Monday :bang:

This will be the first time we have had less than a week for the challange and with people working it does not leave a lot of time.

Can I therefore propose that the winner of the Challange posts the following challange by 12 noon on the Monday following the end of the previous challenge (if they are unable to, then they must delegate someone to post the challange for them) and also that the winner posts the URL of the new thread in the old thread so everyone who is subscribed to the old thread knows where it is and what it is.

I gave up looking for the new topic on Tuesday morning, and as I was out all afternoon taking photographs I have only just found it (it had been relegated off the first 4 pages by the time I got home), and that was only because I was going to PM Jenny to find out what was happenning. had I known the topic yesterday I could have been taking appropriate photographs instead of MF landscapes!

Ed, it was posted on Monday morning - sorry you missed it. Would you like me to extend the date? If so, how much extra time would you like?

I agree about posting the url in the old thread - good idea.

Jenny

My apologies  I must have missed it, it must have moved off the first page or two pretty quickly as I was off and on the forum most of Monday, ah, except for when I was setting up my light challenge shot :bang:

I am not back until late Monday night, and will not really have had time to take anything or process and post it by then, so thanks for the offer but I will just have to pass on this one :'(

i think the posting of the URL in the previous thread should become a rule as then everyone who has subscribed will know of the following weeks challange. I have always posted a line saying I'm in (or in this case I'm not) which then subscribes me to the thread and I know what is happenning.

Before I forget. Taken this morning, not exciting but there you go :)

You can ignore the background on this one ;)

Only 24 hours left to get your entry in, folks. We have not got anything inanimate so far.

I know I am not participating this week, but I happened to be out walking today and saw a couple of butterflies in the bluebells so I thought I would post them anyway. I did not take my 40D, only my little point and shoot and no tripod. I probably could have managed some better pictures with the better equipment, but the subjects were very well behaved.

I think this one is a green-veined white, but I am hopeless at identifying the white ones. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The next is very easy to identify - a male orange tip. I love his little curled tongue!

ok, my only entry this week because i've been moving house so not much time. However, I did get a dawn walk along the beach yesterday and snapped this sunrise... Birds included. It's had no processing whatsoever, just a convert from raw to jpg and uploaded. Really haven't had time and off out now for the night.

Good luck everyone!

Not the image I was after but I ran out of time to go out and get it so I'll post this one I took during the week.

I am very surprised that all the entries were birds and insects. I did expect some inanimate objects.

This was so difficult becuase there were aspects of all of them that I liked. Here are the results:

3rd place - Hepburn

That was really worth getting up early for. I love it.

2nd place - Fabs

Those orange eyes are really stunning. It's a really beautiful bird and there is no distracting background like the other two.

1st place - Just Dave

What a beautiful dragonfly - gorgeous colours and the depth of field is perfect. Congratulations and over to you for next week, unless you have another holiday planned that is!

I also want to mention the fly posted by Keenbfb - I really liked this image and it probably would have been in the top three with just a bit of tweaking of the levels for a bit more contrast and a bit of sharpening.

Many thanks to all of you for entering.

Jenny

Well done Just Dave that’s a cracking photo you just knew it was the winner as soon as you saw it

Thanks for the words of encouragement on my entry Jenny I must try harder next time

brilliant shots, LOVE that sunset one, fabby.

I too knew Dave's would be a winner, corker of an image, as is that fly

well done to the winners!

Thanks Jenny, and congrats to fabs and Just Dave - excellent shots from both of them. The dragonfly is simply stunning though! I have just noticed mine could have done with a little straightening of the horizon... I had been thinking of entering a paper plane shot but just didn't have the time or resource this weekend.

I also want to mention the fly posted by Keenbfb

Me too. It could so easily have been a winning entry but for a little pp work, although we must remember this competition is all about minimal pp work. It was an amazing feat capturing it as well it was imho.

I also knew that Daves shot was a winner as soon as I saw it, beatiful photo.

brilliant shots, LOVE that sunset one, fabby. I too knew Dave's would be a winner, corker of an image

Cheers shorty. And yes, i can only echo the sentiments about the dragonfly. It just screamed winner and i'd have chosen it had i been hosting this weeks challenge.

Dave, please don't forget to post a link to the new challenge thread here.
