I decided that I wanted to do a small personal challenge, and with the festive season upon us, I figured it was an ideal time to get some much needed practice in. I hope my challenge will force me to look at composition, and work with difficult light. I also wanted to use RAW rather than jpeg & look at enhancing the images more.
I have decided to take some images every day from the 12th - 24th December of things that say/ remind me of Christmas. I want to capture things that really capture Christmas for me.
So, day 1 - 12th December 2011
It wasnt until I got home I realised I had shot this in JPEG, not RAW, but by this time, the light had faded and the moment was gone. I tried to enhance the redness of the berries, but it just looked artificial. Still, I am quite pleased with the DOF.
Day 2. 13th December
Managed to quickly grab this from my local garden centre.....I didnt want to get told off by the staff, so its not the best. I like what it represents though, with the bells & ribbon. I know its a little blown to the left, which I am not best pleased about. I managed to enhance the shadows and colours a little, but other than that, there is no PP.
Day 3. 14th December
This is probably my favourite shot so far. I wanted to go for quite a simplistic look, letting the colours do the talking. I shot in RAW and adjusted the shadows/ highlights until I was happy. I love the vivid red contrasting with the dark green of the leaves. I wanted to go for a really high key shot, but couldnt get the settings right, so I am quite pleased with how this came out in the end.
Day 4 - 15th December
Where would we be without the humble Christmas Card?? I wanted to capture the cards waiting to go out, with received cards OOF in the background. I like how this came out, but know that there is room for improvement in terms of the lighting and general set up.
