Hi all,

I'm looking to add a 105mm polarizer to my kit. I already have the Lee holder and just wondering which one to go for. I notice there are 2 versions of the Lee Polarizer, the 105mm and the 105 Landscape, can anyone tell me the difference? Also does anyone have any experience with the Heliopan filter? How does it stack up (excuse the pun).

Thanks.

Pete.

I use the Lee Landscape one. It is thinner, I can use it at 16mm on the Lee holder with no issues. And it is slightly warmer than the other one too.

I've got the Heliopan... I had the standard Lee 105mm beforehand but I got rid of it because it was too thick. :)

Thanks for the replies.

Philip, Just to check are you using the landscape version with 2 slots in the Lee holder?

Iv got the landscape version and use two slot with no issues either nice warm tone aswell, this is also very easy to apply in pp

I'm in the same boat.

I like the Lee (and after asking on here a few weeks ago it seems everyone that has it likes it) (landscape version). What I don't like is the warming effect. I don't like that every image taken will be warmed.
I like the idea of the Hitech Firecrest (really like the other Firecrest filters). The Ultraslim hasn't been made yet and and superslim is a mm thicker that the Lee landscape, so no idea if there's vignetting at around 16mm. I've spoken to Hitech, they don't know either and I can't find a review anywhere.
The Heliopan seems well regarded, but I believe it's a little thicker and vignettes at very wide angles.
Then there's the Nisi. Their other filters seem well regarded - can't find a review of the 105mm polariser anywhere.

I've been trying to decide what to buy now for two weeks. I hope you have more luck :)

Thanks. I'll look into it a bit more but I reckon I'm going to end up with the Lee. It seems like a good bet. The firecrest Ultraslim are showing on their website at £200 which is a little more than I'm looking to pay. I've found the Lee for £195 with adapter ring which looks like a decent price.

Great, thanks for the info. :)

As above, I have had both and found the older polariser vignette with 2 slots on my full frame canon and 17-40. Since I've now moved to the 16-35 f4 and newer polariser I don't get any vignette.
Hope that helps.

It may be worth going to a retailer to compare the two Lee polarisers from a handling point of view. Although the thin version is brilliant for extreme wide angle work - you need to watch for vignetting when using the 'standard' polariser on anything approaching 17mm or even 24mm in my experience - it I can be quire fiddly to attach in the field simply because of its dimensions. Of course that could just be me with fat finger syndrome but it is something to bear in mind. :)

Thanks Paul, it's the 16-35 I'm looking to use it on so that's good news.

I think the Landscape version is the one Alan. As mentioned above I need to use it on the 16-35, it's a fair bit cheaper too from what I've seen. I'll just have to be careful with me saussage fingers. :)

Cheers.

That is a good price. They are a good seller as well (Teamworks I assume?), bought from them a few times.

Just ordered the £195 deal inc. the adapter :)

Hi David, yeah it was from Teamwork. Can I ask, did you order via their site or eBay? I can't seem to find them listed on their site.

Cheers.

I have one for sale in the classifieds. Bought it before they started producing two versions. Used it with a 16.35 with just minimal vignetting in the corners at 16mm but at 18mm there was nothing showing.
Complete with ring and in a pouch.....

Yes from eBay (they are on Amazon as well, but couldn't see a listing with the ring).

I've ordered a few things from them on Amazon and on eBay over the last year. Always very fast to deliver and helpful on the phone as well.

Thanks for the heads up but I reckon I'll just get the Landscape version.

Yeah I've had a few things from them and they allways seem to deliver quick.

Cheers.
