Hi All,

I have been on a long exposure workshop recently, and as have very limited filter collection I was using the tutors K&F Concept ND1000 filter kit.
Which comprises of the filter 10 stop, selection of adapter filter thread rings, holder, and a case
I believe this is the kit in question, link here

For occasional use is this filter kit good enough for my use, and I know systems like Kass, Nisi are good brands. They are just bit to expensive I believe for my needs.

I look forward to you your comments, and suggestions

Many thanks

T

hmm, think I paid about that for my Lee Big Stopper, came in case with adaptor rings etc. but have to say it was a few years ago - used it a few times, the app on the phone takes all the hard work out of calculations - love it

Years ago when the very long exposure trend started people were using the dark gree filters from welding masks for B&W photos so yes, the Kand F is going to be "good enough".
That being said I have the Lee from when they were still made in Middelsex!

Not just the green welding glass, but for greater darkness gold versions too. FWIW Shade 8 welding glass is ~10 stops
My shade 14 (gold) welding glass is around 20 stops & works well from photographing sunspots through a telephoto :)
With welding glass unlike ND filters UV & IR are also reduced by at least the quoted level.

Here's an ancient shot through standard (shade 8) welding glass

Any sort of photographic ND filter should have a much more neutral hue, have less distortions & will probably show less flare too.

K&F filters are good, I have a few and they work well without any weird colouring or anything. I also like Urth because they plant trees with every purchase, but there's also a make called Pig Iron which are sold on eBay from a company called something like Jack the Hat Cameras, which I've got a couple of and have no complaints about, and they're very cheap.

It's also worth looking at places like MPB, they have second hand filters sometimes - I got a Manfrotto 6-stop from them for not very much at all last year.

Good shout about checking MPB first !
I was going to wait till Black Friday, and see what deals are about !

I purchased some 'magnetic' ND K&F filters recently and so far found them great to use and comparing with other older screw filters I have not noticed any degradation in images, in fact magnetic leads to less finger prints !

PS I bought from ebay and got them at about 30% of list and they were brand new still in wrapping
