Anyone spec me a 1.4x teleconverter for my 80-200mm f2.8. Also has anyone else used this combo together and if so how did they find it.

You don't say what 80-200..

If it#s the AF-S, a Kenko 1.4 Pro 300 DG or Nikkor 1.4x TC-E or TC-EII
Non AF-S, the Kenko is your only option.

Sure this Q. has come up several times as my answer is giving me deja vu..!

Thanks for the info I did do a quick search but could not find anything for nikon :(. Its the AF-D Version.

I don't recommend a 2x on anything but the best prime, so really we'd be looking at a 300mm f/2.8.

I do have a image sample from a Kenko 2x on a 300mm f/4 AF-S and its only "ok".

Ok so do you think its worth getting the 1.4x ?

If you need the extra, definately. I've used the Kenko on the 300mm f/2.8, 70-200 VR, and 300mm f/4 AF-S and it doesn't degrade image quality at all.

As long as your lens is razor sharp wide open, you'll have no problem with the TC.

well its a sharp lens the 80-200m f2.8 so I think a 1.4x will be ok. Do you know how much you paid for one?

Mine came from Warehouse Express, about £129 I think but it was ages ago.

I have a kenko pro dg 2x that I use on a 80-200 f2.8 AF-D and to be honest it focuses great and there is very little loss in sharpness..especially when plonked on a tripod...the only gripe I have is that it seems a little loose on my old d70 and on my D300...however my brother in law has the 1.4x converter and believe me if you are using it handheld and at the long end you wont notice a difference between the two as they will both be soft.
