nikon fg film camera conventional

Problem is, my mate has picked up a lovely condition FG Nikon but the display in the viewfinder is very dim. So dim it is hardly readable. It has fresh batteries and the battery compartment is clean. Any of you learned film experts out there have any ideas please? Please note that I will have to...
