Car insurance renewal invitation

A 80% approx increase just seems wrong when I gather car insurance premiums are reducing.

Were any of the other quotes close to that offered by Saga?

In respect of the differences in cover, are they likely to cause you problems?

Have you tried increasing the cover excess?

There were 92 0f 114 quotes on the page..........ranging from around £376 to > £1400

Some many unknown to me e.g. 'OneClick' and Carole Nash ??? Tesco was there @ £1400 odd

I would prefer to go with a known brand and as mentioned SAGA comes in at the sweet spot of not a lot different to what I am paying now....compared to the LV renewal invitation.

Because we were away on hols I now have limited time (need to set it up to start 25th August) to 'dig deeper' in my searches....so SAGA may be the most convenient one right now.

NB of note when completing the GoCompare form it asked about previous claims and their total costs.
A quick call to LV to (a) cancel the auto renewal [to avoid them taking the money!] and (b) to talk to her claims colleague about the costs of the "glass repaires in 2023" and the claim in March this year where some b***ger scraped my car whilst parked in the in the local store car park :mad:

I explained why I need the data and that I was using a comparison site because of the staggering 84% increase this year. To the her credit she said "ouch" about the figures. Oh, I had to pick her brains about the 'descriptor choice' for the on the GoCompare form....and even though I was not in the car the only accurate description was "Drivers fault - no injuries" i.e. because there was no third party to claim against it was 'my fault' even though I was nowhere near my parked car!

At least you are heading in the right direction. Have you looked at changing the excess?

Logic and car insurance seem to be mutually exclusive.

I have just finished a phone call with a helpful lady @ SAGA and am awaiting the paperwork of the proposals.

Of note:-
She came up with quotes even better than the GoCompare figure based on a slightly higher excess than the GoCompare site allowed me to enter (and is the same as my current LV policy)

SAGA have different 'levels' of inclusions in the Comprehensive policy and she is sending all the two levels that include a minimum of the hire car replacement & the Protected NCD. The highest level gives Legal Protection & Accident Healthcare Cover in the UK plus a fixed premium for three years of approx £100 per year higher than the policy without the extras mentioned. So, subject to seeing the proposal docs......................is the 3 year fixed per premium worthwhile (NB this as I understood it is based on no changes from my end in the policy conditions and that Insurance Tax is not covered by the 'fixed price'.

Oh, I asked if that fact that I have SAGA Travel Insurance already would that reduce the Car Insurance premium, sadly not :lol:
 
If Saga fixed price is an attractive price to you (no more than say 15% more than the cheapest and a price you can afford) then I'd say take it. It's a one way bet - insurance prices are actually falling now and if they continue you can just insure elsewhere (check their T&Cs - this always used to be true). If as is likely they continue to rise then you're laughing.

Think of as buying insurance on your premium. Nobody else does this and personally I'm surprised Saga still do.

Carole Nash is quite a big name in classic (and other) motorbike insurance.

Yup, and Tesco’s is just an insurance broker, similar to the AA. You’d find you’re just buying a policy underwritten by another company.

Personally I’ve never found Saga services to be cheap for anything, but there’s so many variables where insurance is concerned that every case is different.

Yes, many are brokers and as you say individual circumstances can skew one person experience with insurance from another.

When renewed last year I asked whether removing my OH would reduce the quote.......to the contrary it was higher by about £15 !
 
I had an email this week for our car breakdown cover renewal, an increase of 46%. This was partly explained by having an introductory discount last year. I spoke to an agent who decided that we needed business cover as well. After adding this and applying a discount I ended up paying quite a bit less than last year’s premium. Great result but it is annoying that you need to revisit providers for nearly all services.
 
Mine always goes up, same with the house insurance. The algorithms are a mystery. Recently, due to putting on slotted discs, I had to look elsewhere as the AA don't do that level of mod.

I called Adrian Flux and they quoted me cheaper with the modification than the AA without it. Crazy eh? I received a nice refund and hopefully going forward I can leave it to Adrian Flux to do the hard work with finding the best price.

nope just use go compare, it uses your same setup for every quote and saves them as well
 
Just renewed my car and one of the boys with Admiral. The other 2 boys found better deals elsewhere and with moved our house insurance as they wanted £780 for it, halved it with the AA.
Bit peed of because of a no fault incident last year.
Our car was reversed into in a hotel car park, the other person was completely up front and it all wrnt through their insurance without Admiral being involved.
Their insurance (Axa) said they would inform Admiral, which they didn’t.
So we had to go though all of they with Admiral. Now we thought they shared a claims DB, but there was no record it on there.
So the opened and close a case adding it as a note only on our insurance.

Then they re quoted the policy and added £40 to each car, citing the usual BS about thing statistically more likely to have a future accident. How that could be as we were in bed when it happened I don’t know.

Raised a complaint, but don’t really expect any change.

I got cited the same BS as well after I was reversed into, saying that statistically I was more likely to be involved in an accident. Yes, I said, I am more likely to be involved in an accident.. an accident that won't be my fault. Grrrrr
 
So not the car but the motorhome insurance is due on the 1st of April, got the renewal quote an increase but not ridicules around £80 on last years. I had a look around and even did a new quote with my current provider and low and behold it was £70 cheaper than last year and £150 than the quote they had just sent me, a quick phone call and the renewals done at the cheaper price. There is just no loyalty anymore.

Indeed. I just find it annoying. They must rely on inertia and any claim like “statistically I was more likely to be involved in an accident”. Although I have to say that Admiral were good after a recent no fault claim.

Just complete rip off insurance. You are no more likely to be involved in anything than you were before. Esp if something happened whilst away, in a hotel car park, that you are never going to go to again!!

Here's the real slap in the face; I used to have my car on a fleet policy with over 10 years no claims built up on that policy. I had three non-fault claims within the last three years before moving away from a fleet policy a few years ago - which I guess does indeed prove that I was more likely to be involved in an accident - a non fault one!).

But get this, the new private policy wouldn't recognise my 10+ years no claims, but they would recognise the three non-fault claims. They shouldn't be allowed to cherry pick like that.
 
Renewal in from SAGA for my car, £2.99 increase from last year, I’ll just it, not worth spending time and effort trying to get down elsewhere, plus very happy the way they handled a no fault accident a couple of years ago.
 
Swinton wanted £200 more Tham last year - went with Hasings which worked out about same as last year
