Having a fair chunk of birthday money going spare and not needing any cameras ,lenses, bags etc but wanting something to keep I decided last night to get a new pocketable flash gun . Read the reviews on the godox iT32 and ordered it about 8p.m Sunday night via Amazon on the doorstep by 9.am today Monday . Currently on charge but impressions is it’s a very nice piece of kit .
It comprises of the flash head unit + receiver / sender unit which connect magnetically, flash diffuser plus two coloured filters.and a base plate stand and a very nice velvet carry bag ..
The main selling point for me was its small size and ability to be able to separate flash head from sender unit and place nearby or even hand hold if required. .
I don’t use a flash very often but it does open up possibilities as opposed to my large Nikon SB 900 . I’m thinking along the lines of usefulness for macro without all the faff of large cumbersome diffusers .i.e getting the light in exactly the right place .. .will update further once charged

It is okay for a bit of fill, we have had a couple of them since launch.

It is not anywhere near powerful enough for most things though and while the O.C.F function is a cool idea because it is so under powered it's not really that useful.

The V480 is a much better small flash.

been looking at one of those myself Jeff, to replace the SB400 that had a lifespan of a lettuce, as a complement to my SB-910. I do have the R1C1 Commander kit for macro, but it isn't exactly lightweight. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Only grizzle I have, from reading the specs, is that the unit doesn't have a Pentax option - the AF540FGZ makes even the SB-910 look small.

remember flash only fires in mech shutter mode not in electronic flash moda

If only, it's 18.

The V480 small flash I mentioned above is GN50 which is much more usable.
18!! no wonder there is little mention of it in the blurb online. The pop up flash on my Z-1p is GN14-15 but I never use it...back to the drawing board,

Works fine on the Z8 and that doesn’t have a mechanical shutter as far as I’m aware

Just tried it out and it works great on the Nikon Z8 , as stated above I already have a full SB 900 kit plus a godox 350 for Olympus either of which can be used as slaves .. as in my initial post it’s only been bought to show that I haven’t frittered away my birthday money .. theres literally nothing else I need

Jeff
maybe your Nikon doesn't have an electronic shutter which the panasonic G9ii has.

these are the options I have with the panasonic G9ii

I presume your Nikon Z8 has the same

OK my last Nikon was the d810 so I have no idea what the Nikon Z range has. As a previous Nikon fan the Panasonic camera I mentioned is like comming out of the stone age. Not just for stills but also a fantastic video side as well. even with lens weight makes a huge difference, let alone the imge stablisation . Not only in the camera but also with the same in the lenses. in addition being able to have an SSD port to exetend memory storage for long videos is bonus without having to use the SD cards

There's a few cameras with electronic readout fast enough to use flash w/o mechanical shutter. Nikon Z8/Z9 have a sync speed of ~ 1/200; the Sony A9 III has a global shutter which syncs at any speed. None of them even have a mechanical shutter.

As I mentioned I am out of touch with newer Nikon cameras and what they can do. So just showed the panasonic version. flash only in Auto and/or mech setting. Flash power output can be controlled via the camera with the Godox V860iii flash gun

Handy little flashes, perfect for travel photography, I have 2 and use them along with an AD200 Pro when doing location shoots, great to have in the bag, and small enough to put in a jacket pocket.

Lots of tutorials and ideas popping up on u.tube of late with ideas on how to use these flash guns . Glad I got mine

I have a couple of small flashes, I find them handy for a hair light or backlighting. They dont take up much room is a bag and their handy.

Having had the it-32 for a few weeks but not had the opportunity to learn it fully , I just went through a hour long tutorial on what everything does WOW its even better than I thought . It can only get better .
As a side note I did a equipment drawer search this afternoon and found I have a small rig extendible selfie stick and a tripod base so I can put my flash head where and when it’s best as well as just hand holding it going to come very useful even for bird shots .this flash gun is imho a game changer
