Hi

I could do with some new SD cards - where's the cheapest place to get them from ?

Is Amazon still not recommended after they had some fake Sandisk cards ?

Had a quick look and the prices seem to have shot up ?!

Are there any other reliable brands ?

thanks

I'd probably choose Amazon because of the ease of returning, but make sure you buy from Amazon itself, and not a 3rd party shop.

Personally I no longer buy cards from Amazon bought some Sony tough cards from them a while back and they were counterfeit. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter if you buy from Amazon direct (I did) as stock is all held in the same place regardless of Amazon direct or Amazon fulfilled. They didn’t seem that bothered either and deleted the review I left. I know a few other people that have had the same issue with the same lackluster response and reviews deleted across various memory card brands.

If you do buy from there I would check with the manufacturer to make sure they aren’t counterfeit.

Where possible I try to buy direct from the manufacturer and a while back switched over to Peargear as I now mainly use CF-A cards.

In terms of prices they have went up everywhere and will likely increase again for the same reason that ram and SSD’s prices have increased dramatically due to demand from A.I companies.

I test every one now, for speed and capacity, and I usually buy Kingston.

Amazon don’t co-mingle stock in the uk any more, following some process and policy changes to fulfilled by Amazon sellers, but there is the chance that stock that arrived last year (or before) was mixed when received

FWIW

I used to buy SanDisk but now buy ProGrade (based on recommendations on other fora).

The version IIRC are 'Cobalt' rated at 300Mb/s read & 250Mb/s
On my OM bodies the Buffer rarely fills in 50fps bursts and clears quicker than I recall the fast SanDisks which I still use as needed

The source is Amazon who are their official UK sales outlet.

I still use Amazon where they are the seller and not from marketplace. Mainly Sandisk but also Lexar, Kingston and Integral. I have not bought any cards for over 16 months and I was surprised to see that the last card I bought, which was a fast card, has increased in price by over 300%.

Perhaps wait for offers during Prime days etc and don’t buy fast cards unless you need them for your type of photography.

I've used these for a while now, never had any problems

Jings! Just looked at the 512GB CFX-B card I purchased last month for £108 - now £249

I'll hold off buying a spare/duplicate for now.

Kingston makes SD and microSD flash memory cards for a variety of devices

Do they? I wonder where they make them? Historically they were rebadgers and at the time there were only 6 or 7 fabrication plants, so for SD cards they were variously Toshiba (now Kioxia), Panasonic/Matsus***a or Samsung...

How long ago was that? There are hundreds of manufacturers now in Shenzhen alone.

Oh a good while - but if you're bothered you can use a software tool to get the details of the manufacturer (rather than the seller/marketer/badger)

But how many of those Shenzhen fabs are Kingston-owned?

Always bought from Amazon without issues. Gigastone is the current brand I have in my camera, Think there's still a Sandisk in my Gopro (never used it this past trip).

I've got a hardly used decent 512GB CFB in the classifieds at a good price and an unused 1TB.

just after I'd bought some cards on Amazon for a reasonable price (Kodak 512Gb and Delkin 325Gb), then someone gifts me some unwanted Sony XQD cards....
