I dithered about posting this and I'm not sure if it's allowed....naming a product. But I've done it because we all have this problem, despite using anti-fungal/mildew spray each time after a bath/shower use. It's when the black fungus/mildew appears. We've had the chap back who put in our walk-in shower, some time after installation, to re-seal the edges because my efforts at replacing the black mouldy bits because the regular spray didn't work, didn't look very nice. He sorted it and recommended a product called "HG mould spray". I was sceptical but it really works. I'm very impressed and relieved, too. We carry on with the normal anti-fungal spray on a daily basis but when that black stuff appears ..and it always does, eventually, it won't get rid of it. HG mould spray will. We don't have tiles, we have the PVC wall panels and they look great compared to the old tiling/grout so., I don't know if HG will work with grout but I'd imagine it would.

If anyone does try it you'll likely need to Google a Youtube on how to open the trigger. We did. Child-proof,I assume. You can't stay in the bathroom whilst it does it's job. It's pretty potent stuff.

It can be bought at any main supermarkets but to show which product I mean this is Tescos.


 
The proper sealant for bathrooms has an anti-fungal element in it to prevent the problem rather than needing to be cleaned off.
 
I have tried a few in the past and HG was one of the best.

But found using a squeegee and a micro fibre cloth the best. Takes a couple of minutes after a shower to dry it.

Our bathroom was done about 4 years ago and still no mold.
 
I think you may have a bigger problem John. You really shouldn't be getting that much mild. How well is the room ventilated?

Door open and an oblong window open. They're just very small bits..a couple of mms really, here and there but don't look nice. Richard says to use a cloth but this HG is really strong..smells of strong bleach and thats'a an ingredient .The instructions say to wear rubber gloves and avoid any skin contact. I just do a few quick sprays as soon as I see any. It takes a while for any to show, several weeks maybe. It's not a problem. When some shows it's only around the base not around the window or wall edges or even the windowsill.
 
Sorry to clarify, we use the squeegee and cloth every shower and do not need to do anything else.

Yes..we do that ,too but with a squeegee,the kind window cleaners use.

I agree, it sounds like a venting issue. We never get mould in either of our showers. Either put in an extractor fan or upgrade the one you already have to something more powerful.

It really isn't a problem. We only called the plumber back after I botched a few bits. The fan is quite powerful. What I'll do, though, is to leave the extraction fan running for 20 minutes and leave the window open, longer.

An easy way to check is to put a piece of toilet paper up to the extractor grille… it should stay there if the fan is pulling enough air. As vintageman says there are plenty of fans with a built in time delay that do the job automatically.
 
We have Mould Magic Extreme for the mould in out bathroom. Tiles and shower cabinet fitted about 10 years before we moved in, our plumber says the tiles and shower basin were fitted incorrectly. We have a black mark around the base.

Any way we have MME. OH has bought 4 of them just for this one purpose.. After 3 tubes she thinks it works. I don't think it does as the mould is still clearly visible and the stuff is a pain to clear off.
 
Something else you can do if the ducting goes through say a loft, is install an inline fan.
They are more powerful than ceiling fans.
