Hi All,

I wish to try another local printing company for my fine art wildlife photo prints please below for examples

I currently have my prints on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl which is good for black, and the wildlife portraits. Some times I have used Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta

I have reached out to some other local print establishments, and one has come with stating they use Silk/uncoated paper !

Not sure what make the Silk/uncoated paper is so I have replied requsting that info.

My question is which off Silk/uncoated paper is the same Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl as I suspect the silk is possibly the closest !

I would ask for samples and then see if you like them. It could also be an indicator of their desire to inculcate to new customers their service.
 
Is your desire to try an alternative due to budgetary reasons or you are seeking a different look ?

It can be a bit of a rabbit hole trying papers to get a slightly different look. If you are happy with your current printer Id suggest you stick with them - obviously subject to financial constraints

Additionally are you printing for sale or just your own satisfaction
 
I wonder if any of the older & indeed more recent paper additions by @Tradecanvasprint would catch your eye?

Their sample pack might answer some of your questions?

The owner of the print establishment I use is a bit of an Arse, and a few times when they have messed up some prints he has just informed me he is happy with the prints, and I just have to do a few minor adjustment to frame !

I sell my prints in frames with inner mounts.

So I really want a back up printing Co just in case things go south with my current print provider, and I would like to try another printing Co for possible different look !

FWIW

I used to buy @Tradecanvasprint prints before I switched to their canvases.

IIRC they automatically add 13mm border to the prints as an aid to framing. But again IIRC I paid to have a wider border to improve my mounting where I T-hinged the prints to the mount.

NB the printed area is exactly what you order & receive. They are not shrinking the printed area to accommodate the border.

Yes, the actual print is for example A3, and within the A3 size there is a border white, or Black.

Er! your two sentences are contradictory :thinking:

The printed area is your choice, the border adds to the size i.e. if you are asking them to print A3 size then with the border the piece of paper will be larger than A3

IIRC there is an FaQ on the website?

We print on Hahnemuhle papers and are a certified studio, we do not use their Pearl paper, but a popular one we stock is their Photo Silk Baryta X and Sustainable Photo Satin, we're happy to do samples for you. We can also send you a free paper sample pack of our stock papers. We also use Fotospeeds Smooth Pearl, which is a great value alternative paper yet has all the credentials of a more expensive photo paper.

Happy to send you ICC profiles for soft proofing if you're on a calibrated screen.

As @Box Brownie mentioned, if you place an order with us your print is always the size you order, whether thats with or without the additional free border. If you choose to have the border added, it goes onto of your print size, so we never shrink the print to fit.

Sorry for any confusion, any white border I may have is on the A3 sheet, not additional too....

In which case, if(?) you are selling it/them as A3 sized prints....... it is not IMO an A3 print. And again IMO to describe such a print as A3 is possibly misleading.

All my prints are either A4, or A3 as they are easier to find frames to mount.
The odd few times I have printed 30x40cm photos I have had frames made for them either borderless, or slightly bigger than 30x40cm so I can incorporate an inner mount.
Therefore all my A4, or A3 prints will contain a border within that size it I need it.
I tend to only print non border prints as I use inner mounts on the frames to create a white physical border, and other course the actual picture frame itself gives depth to the image.
