Good evening everyone. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good overlays, such as smoke, sunrays, sunburst etc? And also some clear advice on how best to use them please?

Try Etsy, they sell overlays
 
The only things I have purchased from etsy, are animal overlays, just really for my grandchildrens photos when they were very young, so it was something which didn't really need to be precise, just a bit of fun for kids. The ones I got seemed fine for that, no complaints I can think of.
 
There’s an app called Lens Distortion which has overlays. Many of free, some you have to pay for
