I cannot recommend enough this book "From Snapshots to Great Shots" by Jeff Revell. It has been really useful and the assignments at the end of each chapter help to reaffirm what you have read...
To mirror what CharlieLens said, I too am very new to this. I also have a Nikon D3100 which I've owned for 6 weeks now.
You do have a natural eye for composition! I would like to be able to capture that...if it was me I would probably be taking pictures with the lens cap on still...
I've...
Thanks for all your replies guys.
Now the activity has been completed, I can update the thread.
They don't allow for any cameras or even phones to be taken on the course area. The only way you can take a camera is if it is attached securely around your wrist (which I thought was strange)...
It's just a shame that is my first situation shooting in these conditions as I would like to get some good shots to cherish.
At least it will be good practice if nothing else
Thank you George, sadly I don't have a longer lens at my disposal and will have to make do with my kit lens.
I will most certainly ask and it's not in my nature to be demanding. Plus it's a family event so I wouldn't want to ruin it with my petulance! :)
When you say take a manual reading...
Hi All,
As a surprise 60th birthday present, my mum has arrange for a surprise treat to Go Ape in Thetford forest for my dad including all the family.
I hope to take some shots whilst being on the ground whilst they are 'aping' around in the tree tops.
I'm very new to the world of...
It's been a pleasant surprise to learn that an outfit that is so reputable is pretty much on my door step.
They are selling the 35mm lens on my shortlist for a shade under £145 and the 55m for £155 which are both cheaper than John Lewis.
I think I would be foolish not to at least as the guys in John Lewis if I can try before I buy.
I bought my 3100 from there and they were excellent. I spent over 2 hours with the assistant. He let me look at both Canon 1100 and a couple of bridge cameras, explaining the benefits in layman...
I'm sure they stuck a prime lens when I bought the camera back in late April and remember how quick the AF did its work. For £10 and not having to go to the PO to sign for the parcel I'd prefer to head to JL in this instance! But for other accessories I can see Amazon being useful.
Both the 35mm and 50mm are in stock at John Lewis in Norwich for £10 more that the new price on amazon, so it may serve me well to see if they will let me try both on my body (in store) at least that way I can see both in action.
Plus you can't beat John Lewis for service.
Ha! Two replies; 1 for the 50mm and another for the 35mm :D
I'll take a look at the shots on my flickr to see what the majority of the focal lengths are.
