Just ordered the Canon EF-S 55-250mm

Great choice. I also bought the 55-250mm less than a year ago. Reason being i wanted a zoom lens with good reach but not having the budget for a 70-200 etc. I think of it as sort of an "intro" to tele-photo ... hahah!

    Using a Variable ND Filter

Hi all, Sorry to piggyback on this thread but i just have a question. Also new to photography and bought one of the Variable ND's. How does one use it correctly, do we take a reading before putting it on or after. Also do we take the reading of the foreground? Thanks a lot.

    lens hoods and filters

If you were thinking of a filter for protection then maybe a uv filter but even then the front element is quite recessed (if im not mistaken) so not entirely neccesary. Btw i use the same lens.

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

Thats what i leaning towards now, the 70-200 + extender for the extra reach when needed. Love the flexibility that it offers, fast aperture (for low light) and length (when needed via the extender) Thanks for the offer, if we were even in the same country i would like to take it up...

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

I use a humble 550D, meaning to say i am but a begginer in the worls of photography.

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

I see your point. My confusion / conundrum was between choosing between a faster aperture or a longer range lens.

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

Must admit i am leaning towards the former option. Thanks Phil....

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

One reason im also divided is that i want to take is bird pics hence why the 70-300 is an attractive option but the variable aperture is a question esp when i take pics at night during functions. Which leads to the fixed aperture of the 70-200 which is also attractive. So to compensate for the...

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

So in theory on a crop body using a 70-200 F/2.8 with a 1.4 extender becomes a 156-448 F/5.6? Would that be right?

    Help.... 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM with x1.4 / x2 extender or 70-300 F/4-5.6 L IS USM

This would be my first purchase of an L lens and find myself going back and forth between the two. Do i go for the fixed aperture of the 70-200 or the range of the 70-300? I understand that with the 70-200 when combining it with a x2 extender it goes from 2.8 to 4 aperture value and essentially...

    Manfrotto MH293A3-RC1.... Worth it?

Would like to know peoples opinion on the Manfrotto MH293A3-RC1 Tripod head. This would be my first purchase of a tripod head as my firts tripod was one of those basic ones with a fixed head. So i really want to know what people think of it before i make the purchase. I would be combining...

    Portrait lens

I recommend the 50mm 1.8. Sharp and quick. I use it to take photos of my 10 month old son. As other people have mentioned, its a great lens and for the price, it's a bargain.

    Canon 650D or 60D?

Interesting point and something to mull over. I was keen on the af points and lcd screen on both the models mentioned.

    Canon 650D or 60D?

The most interesting feature for me is the LCD which is available on both. As you mentioned both will take similar pics as , from what i understand, the are both 18 megapixel. But the 650D uses the digic5 correct? So better high ISO performance (i think). The HDR / Touchscreen i'm not sure about.
