    just got a 580EXII but now i......

the 580, 550, 430 and 420 should all work as slaves. Inside the remote system works surprisingly well as the optical trigger can bounce around. Outside forget it really, you'll need something that triggers with RF for any reasonably range and reliability outdoors.

    Possible anorak question..Battery life.

I'm not sure if this applies to Nikon but most Canon cameras have the auto shutdown set for a minute or two. As the start up is only 0.2s this doesn't interfere with the user so I assume the reasoning is that it saves battery.

    Canon Cashback

Pretty quickly. About a week or two to get online confirmation then a month to get the actual cheque. Bear in mind the claims centre is in Ireland so it's going to take longer than usual to get there.

    AF Auto point selection

Not strictly true, in spot metering mode it will be but in other modes it won't. The 400D doesn't have a spot metering so it's never going to be just the centre AF point. It's either going to be evaluative, average or centre weighted. Out of these three on the third has a bias towards the...

    Lego 365

That's brilliant. I'm doing a 365 and finding trouble with inspiration. Must be tricky coming up with something incorporating them everyday. *goes off to find Lego men in loft*

    Sigma 24-70 f2.8

This is something I've noticed on several sigma lenses. Their 24-70 and 70-200 are both much stiffer than the canon L equivalents. Does anyone know why this might be?

    DPA, Photography and reasonable force.

While it may be in there it doesn't relate to photography at all. It's only for other reasons that it can be used. To my knowledge there certainly isn't any provision for it under the DPA. Thanks for the advice all. It's still on going this but I'll let you know if they decide to come out...

    Ebay optics

Lens wise you're pretty safe. They're far too complicated to copy at a reasonable price. The only photography related things that are regularly faked are memory cards and accessories such as remote releases and battery grips. Steer well clear of the memory cards but the 3rd part accessories...

    Nikon 70-200 f2.8 in stock?

It's hardly a few though is it? Every major news agency in the world has photographers at the games. Considering the amount of gear pro sports shooters have it's going to cost at least £20,000 to equip them with new gear. I really doubt the halo effect is really that great. There again, if...

    Which Course

By £500 of gear and a few books on both photography and business. They'll probably come in far more use than a qualification if you're wanting to go pro.

    GB at the Olympics !

I don't think the medals tables accurately reflect our prowess as a sporting nation. The reason we've got so many is that we've been very clever with funding. Track cycling being a multidisciplin even has a lot of potential to get a big medal haul. A massive amount of lottery funding was...

    Nikon 70-200 f2.8 in stock?

Do you have any source for that at all? That seems like complete lunacy in a business sense. How on earth would they make any money giving away so much gear. I can understand them wanting to gain market share in this segment to create a positive brand image (Canon did this very well with white...

posh lens on a consumer camera?

In almost all cases it's better to go for glass than a new body. The 450D is an extremely capable camera with excellent IQ. The 24-105 will suit it very well as an general purpose zoom lens. It's also worth noting lenses don't depreciate at anywhere near the rate of bodies. Bodies lose a...

    wheres my order?!

This wouldn't really effect stock of the nifty fifty though. From what I've heard it's just the super telephoto lenses that are in high demand at the moment.

    Polaroid Impulse AF

Not a huge amount, check out this link. It's using a bigger camera and the film is only $300 for each exposure. http://www.joemcnally.com/blog/2008/07/08/welcome-adorama/
