Urgent Question for Nikon D500 Users

I have noticed that some days I can get way above the 1200, on Tues it was1549 shots from 100% to zero, made note of which battery. Other days it seems to be about 400 - 600. As I cycle through the batteries I might find I have one that's not performing like the others. Might be me and not the...

    D500

I thought I'd test out the new and much more numerous f8 focus points and see what the 600mm f4 vr was like with a 2xTCIII. Wont be quite so worried about using the combo again, both shots PP in PS. Some levels, NR, contrast and sharpening. The light was very good and the subjects obliging for...

I think it is a Grey Heron and as the upper wing pattern matches. The black head might just be the angle of the shot. The feet can be black(ish) depending on what they've been in. Here's one I prepared earlier with black head and feet, taken last year.

I did that the other day just to see what the jpgs were like :) 100% crop camera standard. jpg extra fine, I think I may have had the contrast & sharpening up a notch from default. 200- 500mm lens. If I could gaurantee I'd get the exposure right more, might save some PP time. Just cropped in...

    D500

Another +1 to Gramps & Dave Semmens. I shoot mostly birds and bugs, also lucky to have D810 and D500 and like Dave I have hardly used the D810 since acquiring the D500. AF on the D500 is better than anything I have used previously. Noise can be there but it cleans up very well.

@Swanseajack Be sure to check that the reader is compatible with card as the latest generation/version XQD cards will not work in the older readers and vise versa. The reader I got from amazon. Link to the lexar page http://www.lexar.com/lexar-pro-xqd-reader?category=203

As far as I know XQD is yet another card format, you would need an additional reader to read these cards out of camera, however the D500 has USB3 connectivity so you can can connect the camera directly to the comp and transfer images/files to your favourite photo editor. I used the camera USB3...

    D500

For bifs I have found group mode to be good, my panning is not good enough for single point unless target is quite a bit larger/slower than your average bif. I have also had success with the dynamic modes as well. I don't seem to do very well with the 3D mode at all. Shooting puffins on Skomer...

    D500

Center weighted average today all day some 300 shots and not a blown white to be found :). Plenty oof and messed up but that was all me :D. Had to less PP with files as well. Weather hot (at last) bright and very sunny. I have the Li-ion 02's and found the battery usage to be generally very...

    D500

I changed the White balance from Auto0 to Auto1 (Photo shooting menu) as I thought the images were on the white(ish) / cold(ish) / bright(ish) side, sorry not very scientific I know but not sure how else to describe it. I have noticed that with the D500 it seems to be easier to blow whites than...

    Nikkor 200-500?

Can't speak for the Sigma, but I'm happy with the 200-500mm, sharp wide open and throughout the range. RIAT Sunday 200-500 : f5.6 : 310mm DSC_8673 by Jerry Hawker, on Flickr
