    New D800E Serial Number

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I really didn't fancy that drag back to Burgess Hill. I am actually really happy with the camera. Rough and ready lens AF calibrations seem to indicate build quality like D700, rather than D7000.

    New D800E Serial Number

By the way Matthew, an upload of jpeg to MyShutterCount.com says that the true shutter count matches the current exposure numbering. Does that mean that it was never a demo ?

    New D800E Serial Number

As far as I know, I recorded the first actuation, but I have not been able to confirm that my EXIF peeping. This forum; I saw a post in another thread which gave the 611xxxx serial number.

    New D800E Serial Number

I have just bought a 'new' D800E from a major dealer in the south east. The camera appeared pristine, and, thankfully, appears to snap sharply into focus using the left most point (I haven't done anything more methodical so far). Now I see that current serial numbers are > 611xxxx Mine is...

    View NX2 'unsupported file' Problem

David, thanks for responding. Yes, I had to download a new 64 bit version. Also, I keep an eye on ViewNX2 updates. Strangely, I haven't had any problems with any other file from that session; so I'm not going to worry about it any more.

    View NX2 'unsupported file' Problem

I have been using ViewNX 2 as my image processor of choice for a couple of years now. My cameras, the D700 and D7000 have not changed. My computer, however, has changed to an i5 16GB Windows 7 64 bit. For this last, I had to download a new version of ViewNX, which has behaved, up until now...

How much RAM do you have?

Nor do I. Unfortunately, that configuration threw its legs in the air on Sunday, and now I am the proud owner of a semi-functional i5/16GB Windows 7 64 bit monster which cannot work with my soundcard or my scanner; sigh ! Worst thing is, I now have enough computing power for a D800E.

    D800 RAW File Size

Thank you Steven, first time I've seen it set down so clearly.

    D800 RAW File Size

Thanks for that Steve. Good, reasoned advice. Back on the fence then. In your earlier post in this thread, you said: "It doesn't come down to DX vs FX, the other formats do result in smaller files, just not as small as DX." Given that I meant 'in-camera' files (I should have made that...

    D800 RAW File Size

Well, as I said originally, "I was considering using the camera at 1.2 or 5:4 format for most subjects". These modes are considerably higher resolution than DX.

    D800 RAW File Size

Mmm, thanks Dougie. So it basically comes down to either FX or DX, and nothing in between (for RAW). Seems a bit pointless to have the other image areas, unless you shoot JPEGs. Oh well, it would mean an early crop in PP most of the time; do-able I suppose. Still undecided. Will someone please...

    D800 RAW File Size

I am still at the stage of assessing the D800 before I make the decision and start building the funds. I would probably let go of both the D7000 and the D700 and a couple of lenses for this. Pending computer upgrade, I was considering using the camera at 1.2 or 5:4 format for most subjects...

    Mupe bay, Kimmeridge bay

Not sure how to do that, but this should help: http://www.southampton.ac.uk/~imw/Dancing-Ledge.htm If you drive into Worth Matravers from the north west (from Swanage direction), you will see the car park on the right just before the town. Walk down into town and look out on your left...

    Mupe bay, Kimmeridge bay

Hi Sebas; not to divert your query, but if that is the kind of shot you're looking for, east of St Aldhelm's Head is best. There you will find the best rocky ledges, complete with ammonite fossils. Dancing Ledge is probably the best. Park in Worth Matravers, then walk south and east through the...

    Reliability - Nikon vs. Canon

Cheers for that Phil. Apparently you can on the D7000 as well. I did not know that. Have to try and see if it 'falls to hand' naturally. Update: Tried it; would not work. Obviously 'AF-Lock' is not the same as 'AF-On'.
