I know the Tamron won't be as good as the Canon equivalents, but for 70 quid will it be a bad purchase as a first telephoto just to give me the extra range over my kit lens?

Would a novice like me notice the difference between the Tamron 55-200mm F4/5.6 DI II Macro EOS and the Canon EF 55-200 F4.5/5.6 USM/2?
The tamron is obviously loads cheaper, but based on advice from another of my questions...

Having just bought my 450d for christmas, i've only got the kit lens and ideally would like another (maybe 2) just to provide a bit more "capacity" (if that's the word) to take more photo opportunities.

I've found Aperture pretty easy to use so far and it seems more than adequate for the things I do, but it's good to know your experiences with Photoshop.
I may well go for it in the future as I get a bit more experience.
