Would you repair before sale or sell it "as seen"?

I'd buy and fit the parts myself rather than pay someone else to do it, they're both really simple jobs. The LCD cover is only held in with double-sided adhesive and the hotshoe by 4 little screws.

    Lens dropped/knocked & not focusing

What lens is it? If it's not some rare-as-rocking-horse-poo ridiculously expensive one then chances are it's now bin-fodder. As John says, with the front element cracked it's probably not worth trying to sort out the focus issue anyway.

    “Fun” Car Advice

Ha, love it! Might help keep it warm in the winter too, if it doesn’t burn you it gives you frostbite. :D

    “Fun” Car Advice

I do quite like that colour and was looking at a bronze type S before I bought my R. Nice to have something other than red, black or silver isn't it? :D Has your handbrake lever fallen apart yet? Mine did recently, it ended up in 3 pieces. What about your left palm.... have you suffered 3rd...

    “Fun” Car Advice

I've owned my FN2 Type R for a year now, I absolutely love it! It's quick, it handles like a go kart and has a huge boot, with the back seats down I can easily get my road bike in without taking the wheels off. Every time I drive it it puts a smile on my face.... especially when I hit 5200rpm...

Non alcoholic and low alcohol beer

I've tried loads of different lagers and the only one I keep going back to is Beck's Blue. St Peter's Without is ok too, you can almost convince yourself it's a flavoured beer.

    Beginner Canon 350d lenses

A zoom lens won't get you "proper" close up pictures, it will allow you to get distant subjects closer. For proper close up stuff you really need a macro lens but they don't come that cheap. If she's on a low budget just get the standard 18-55 IS and a 55-250 IS, they will cover most things...

    Help choosing a lens...

I bought a 75-300 on here for (I think it was) £40, tested it against my 55-250 and sold it back on here pretty much straight away. Nothing about that lens is any good, at £79 new they look like a bargain but you're much better off putting that £79 towards something better. Be careful about the...

    upgarade lens

I had a Sigma 150-500 but sold it in favour of a Sigma 50-500, it's a beast of a lens and extremely versatile.

Is it easy to fix a Canon lens?

Having watched that video I'm not even remotely tempted to buy a "spares or repairs" one. :wideyed: One thing that video doesn't tell you is that there is quite a complex element alignment process required after reassembly. it's not outside of the realms of a competent diyer but it's quite fiddly.

Is it easy to fix a Canon lens?

The problem with DIY repairs on lenses is that there are an awful lot of very small parts inside them and the IS unit is very deep inside which will mean almost fully dismantling it. I've repaired several 17-85s with the failed ribbon cable and they're easy enough once you know where everything...

Broken / part missing red ring on Canon L lens!

As far as I'm aware the red ring only comes as part of the focus barrel assembly from Canon but as said, you can get silicone ones which probably wouldn't look anything like the originals but at least it would be a red ring. To send it off to Canon to have the barrel assembly replaced would be a...

Canon 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS USM focus hunting DIY fix

I have one that does exactly the same even after I dropped a complete new aperture unit into it. It sometimes focuses fine but sometimes hunts and when it thinks it's got focus it often hasn't. It's the body that decides when focus is achieved not the lens so there's nothing inside the lens to...

    Disable Focus Ring on Beanbag

Why not put something on the underside of the lens which lifts the focus ring clear of the beanbag? That way you won't have to think about anything.
