    photosoph/photoshop elements

There's loads of differences between lightroom and Elements. Lightroom is first and foremost a photo management system with some excellent editing capabilities built in. Elements is first and foremost a photo editing tool which has some catalogueing capabilities. In addition to the...

Make old-fashioned contact sheet with software?

Lightroom 2 & 3 have contact sheets as standard options within the print module.

Setting up Lightroom2 on large network?

My 2p on this. I am not an expert, so please correct me if I am wrong. I've got Lr running against catalog files on my local PC drive, with my Pictures stored on a Mapped Drive (E: or F: drive for example). It has worked for me for over 2 years and 16000 pictures in my main catalog...

    Software Upgrade - what next?

I use E6 and Lightroom together. lightroom for cataloging and rough editing. Lightroom does batch editing as well. I use E6 for in depth editing on a single picture. Don't want to spend the big money on PS....

Bag for camera while out walking

I use a LowePro Slingshot 200 and fit 40D with a 28-135, along with 70-300 plus room for more. The grip on the 50D should still fit with no problems. It's a sling pack and is pretty comfortable for all day walking.

    General rant

Man, and I thought I was taking too many pics. I guess I need to snap more to keep up with all of you.

    General rant

I haven't picked a single subject. Not sure if it's a good thing to do or not. I did have a wise old photographer tell me you should always have 'a project' on the go. Doesn't matter what it is, but have something. Then you can focus on really working on that, while still doing other...

    General rant

:shrug: Ok - I just checked LightRoom -- It's more like 8000. I'm of the mindset -- snap, snap and snap again. If I'm lucky one of them will turn out good. CF Cards are cheap. :naughty: Besides, I'm originally from the US and just got sent back home, after two years in...

    General rant

RobC - I don't think you are ever satisfied with your own work. I got my DSLR almost 3 years ago, and have taken almost 5000 pics since then. I'm only truly happy with about 30 of them, and there are 5-7 I would consider good enough to put on the walls of chez moi. I agree with all...

    I need help big time

DJ - It's not hard to tell you are young. The number of TBH's, IV's and ATM's throughout your writing gives it away. You write like my kids use SMS. Buried back within this thread someone said you need to develop a thick skin, and I agree. There are many, many people on this forum who...

    Dud Canon 28-135mm lens?

I sent my USA Purchased 28-135 into Canon UK for the same thing... it was about 13 months old -- they 'fixed' it for free. If I was you, I would send them an email quickly and ask what they can do for you... Even if you have to pay - I would recommend shipping it in to them. Should be less...

What's the best monopod head for manfrotto

I've got a Manfrotto 234RC and love it. It does allow the camera to be rotated 90 deg (vertical). But I must admit I don't shoot motorsports at all. The quick release plate is the same for my tripod ball head as well! I don't have to take it off the camera.

    Canon - 'walkabout' lenses.

I am kinda new to photography, and am still way low on the learning curve, but I got the 28-135 as part of a kit with my 40D. The only other lens I have right now is a 70-300 (that I use very infrequently), so the 28-135 is primary lens.... I've not been happy with the sharpness of the pics...
