If you purchased 2nd hand items and it gets stolen how would you go about proving its your without receipts, etc?

Thanks for the response. Hmm decisions decisions! So the 50mm f1.8 I have will have the same problem? The prices are getting ridiculous aren't they, 8 or so months ago I've seen 85mm f1.8 go 2nd hand for £180-190, no chance of that now!
