Focus - lens and body possibly incompatible?

I had to use AF Fine Tune for all of the lenses I shoved on my D7000 if I remember correctly. All very different amounts though, with the 18-200 only needing one increment to get it there. I found mine hated my 35mm 1.8 DX lens (which was a lens I rather liked, and one that went very well on my...

For those who use a UV filter...

All of my lenses have a filter on for protection. Mostly Hoya, but I did end up buying a K&F for my 200-500 as I couldn't find much from Hoya in that size. I'm typically pretty careful when out and about although you can never tell when something might go wrong I suppose. Something that made me...

    Back after 7 years

Welcome back :) I took some time out a few years back also, but back to enjoying casual strolls with the camera every now and again. Whereabouts are you? Might not be all that far from me potentially.

    Returning to the fold.

I believe I've dealt with Ingrid since coming back to photography after a break. I think this one was a Gretel and around 2010-2011ish  I know I saw her at a little TP meetup in the NEC Wetherspoons when a bunch of us co-ordinated a visit to Focus On Imaging.

    Returning to the fold.

I don't think any of the members I used to know are still on here, or at least don't appear to be posting anymore. I forget exactly who I met now, but I do seem to recall a nice lady who may have been called Gretel? A few members used to organise impromptu little popup shoots/walkabouts and I...

Recommendations for decent walkabout lens for Nikon D90

For general strolling about snapping photos, I've always quite liked the AF-S 18-200. I've had two of the second gen versions now. Nearly bought another one quite recently, but it was a bit fooked when I went to get it :hungover:

    D3 or D3s

After a brief bit of karma sidestep, I traded in my D7000 a few years ago to get a D3S body that I had originally been saving for but didn't end up getting. Primarily wanted it for cleaner low light stuff, but it's good for most general use. The differences are probably incremental between D3...

    Nikon 200-500 advice needed

I may be getting one at some stage in the not too distant future. Noticed it sometimes gets in a pickle with the AF and stops attempting to 'sweep' the focus range unless you help it along a bit by rotating the focus ring nearer to the target range. From doing some research, that may simply be a...

Nikon 70-200 VR II hood issue

Is there damage to the fittings or something? The hood on mine has a release button and I've assumed it to be fairly solid compared to the 'click into place ones' I use normally.

What is your biggest missed opportunity or sold gear?

In hindsight, I'd like to have kept my 18-200 VR II that I bought brand new from a business that used to be on here. I sold it to go full frame, but ended up accidentally buying and keeping another APS-C body for an additional 8 years in the end. Bought another 18-200 VR II for that time until I...

Nikkor 70-200 - which is the one to get these days?

Depending what your usage is, the extra stop may or may not be useful. I've found the optical quality better than the 70-300 VR I used to have though.

Used equipment bought from MPB, Wex, Park Cameras etc

Of those, I have only used MPB (and only once at that). I part exchanged a camera body for my current one, and to be fair it all went to plan. I initially requested the quote on my old body self assessed as 'Good', but after seeing what other examples they had for sale in that category, I asked...

Nikkor 70-200 - which is the one to get these days?

I bought the VR II a couple of years ago. Very pleased with it. The first generation one was meant to be decent as well, so you'll probably be fine whether you go for VR, VR II or FL. Buy on condition over spec.

    Nikon Z lens choice

Before I moved predominantly to FX format, I used to have a 18-200 VR II on my DX bodies. I found the focal range quite versatile as I only needed to carry the one lens to cover most things (with the exception of a 1.8 prime in the bag for low light). It did the job fine for what I wanted, but...

    Beginner Lens help.

I bought the 35mm 1.8 DX lens a couple of times and always found it excellent, especially for the money. A little bit of fringing wide open, but really sweet at 2.8 which quickly became one of my favourite apertures :)
