I feel a bit out classed - but this was taken with my 50. Thanks CJS - Kenko tubes are on my Wish List. I want them even more now!

    Compact flash card and reader

I use Sandisk Extreme 8Gb cards (class 6) in my D90 - no problems at all with them. RE the card reader - I found my old Trust card reader would not read them - possibly due to the speed; so I bought a Sandisk ImageMate All-In-One card reader (as I needed one that reads MicroSD, CF and Sony...

Best book about the Nikon D90?

I have the "dummies" book to the D90 - I found it easier to read than the Nikon manual, with some useful tips as well as camera control info etc. Amazon Reviews were not too bad, and at £10 the price was OK too. The other book I considered was The Nikon D90 Companion by Ben Long - this...

    need a little assistance

I seem to be surrounded by phones at the moment as we're testing potential new handsets at work, and I've added a couple to the list that I fancy as a personal phone for "testing" purposes. So far I've tested the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Nokia E52, Nokia E72, iPhone 4, and the HTC Desire. For...

    Sigma 150-500 - not enough???

I feel intimidated by the fact you guys know more about my photo and my location in relation to the subject than I do - and you weren't even there! Thanks for the help and advice everyone - I really appreciate it. Another lesson learned

    Sigma 150-500 - not enough???

Good idea! ... ... ... It's an old image on Google Earth - but the distance is around the 55m + mark. 55 / 2 * 24 = 660 Nikon have the sensor size down as "23.6" - in camera terms do you round up to 24, or should I use 23.6 in my calculations?

    Sigma 150-500 - not enough???

Thanks Bob. Looking at the math side of things - that makes sense. I think it could be me expecting too much of it. I have looked through some other shots, and am pretty sure they were at maximum zoom, so the one above could not have been. If you add a few more metres distance and take...

    Sigma 150-500 - not enough???

I recently purchased a Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM to use with my Nikon D90 for both motorsport (MotoGP recently) and in Kenya next week. I am worried that their is either a problem with the lens, or I am not using it correctly, or that I am expecting too much from it. Stood at Club...

    Calibrate Imac monitor?

Open "System Preferences", choose "Displays", and then click "Colour". Open the Color pane of Displays preferences, Click Calibrate. This will open the Display Calibrator Assistant. You can also use something like SuperCal (http://www.bergdesign.com/supercal) which does something...

Settings Guide - Is there such a thing

Not seen a guide, but there is an iPhone app called "Digital SLR Photography Toolkit for dummies" which is similar, as well as "Photo Trainer". Nikon do a "Learn & Explore" app too - but like the others the info is only a general guide as weather conditions etc. vary. They are handy if you...

    Learn with MD Lesson No2.

...because the shutter speed is faster, thus open for a shorter amount of time, thus less light gets in. Adjust ISO to compensate for the reduced light, or f-stop to actually allow more light in. Did I get that right?

Kit list (aka "Spend my money!")

Is that the "Spudz" microfibre cloths? Found this one which matches my avatar - will have to go for that :D Hama lens pen and Giottos blower added to the list as well.

    Next book, after the basics

After reading loads of topics right here on the forum and the other internet sites, the dummies guide to my D90, and watching a couple of Magic Lantern DVD's I am starting to understand ISO, aperture, shutter speed, histograms etc., how they affect my photo, and I know that the biggest limiting...

    ND Filters...? (Now Polarising Filters)

I'm getting a refund off them and returning it. <phew!> Based on the advice of UV filters for lens protection while in Kenya later this month, I'm ordering the following from Amazon this afternoon : Hoya 67mm HD Digital PL-CIR Screw in Filter @ £61.88 Hoya 67mm Pro-1 Digital UV Screw in...

Kit list (aka "Spend my money!")

Thanks for the replies - really appreciated. I have 3x 8Gb cards, 3 batteries, a waterproof Lowepro bag for the camera which also fits the 50mm, and a Lowpro 5 case for the Sigma. I notice Sigma do a UV filter at 86mm, so will order that for a bit of protection. Having recently got...
