As well as the focussing screen, bigger brighter viewfinders. Its how you see what you're photographing, but doesn't get much attention in mid range cameras. I recently had a look through my old minolta x700, and now I'm trying to forget how good the vf picture is compared to my 550d.

I recently looked at the 550d vs the 60d (same sensor resolution, good high ISO performance and video capability). I eventually went with the 550d as a purely financial decision, but the standout feature of the 60d for me was the viewfinder. [relatively] huge, very bright and well worth taking...
