    Official Talk Leica thread

If you want to scratch the Leica itch then you can pick up an excellent ‘regular’ Q2 for significantly less than £4K. What features of the reporter version do you consider make it worth the extra money for you? I bought a Q2 off here a while back and am enjoying it. Other than the lack of a...

What kit to take to Norwegian Fjords Cruise?

I’ve been on a few cruises, but not been to the Norwegian fjords yet, although I did go to the ones in New Zealand a few years back. For scenic places I have my Z7ii and 24-200 as that covers near / far. I normally also take a compact if I don’t want to carry the Nikon round all day. My advice...

Don McCullin exhibition at Bruton Somerset (until 12th april 2026)

Dammit, I’m only half an hour away on business this week but they don’t open until 1200 on Friday, at which point I’ll be more than halfway home:(

Fine Art Research Project at University of the Arts London

Hi Kim, what is the nature of the research? Happy to help but I don’t want to waste yours or my time if whatever it is you’re researching isn’t something I can help you with.

    Cotswold Cameras

Bought a Nikon 1.4TC from them a couple of weeks back and it took about 10 days to arrive but as it cost £200 less than a new one from the likes of Wex and £100 less than second hand, I was good with that. Weirdly, it was hand posted at a post office in Manchester.

    Large(ish) Printing Options UK

For large prints I always use DS Colour Labs. Used to use Photobox and they were OK, but I like the fact that there’s a better selection of papers at DS. I tend to use Maxima paper for my black and whites. Ilford do lovely black and white prints but by jingo they’re expensive. I sent the same...

Beginner Sony Cybershot Rx10iv. Worth it?

I had one for a while and yes it’s very capable, and if you’ve never had a DSLR or mirrorless camera before then you’ll be happy with the image quality. It’s still a biggish camera though, but the focal length of the lens is incredible and incredibly useful.

You only need one in focus

You only need one in focus? That’s about my normal hit rate anyway, so there’s hope for me yet as a photographer……

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

I use handgrips on my Z6ii and Z7ii. I found the cameras a little too small in the hand, but too big with a battery grip for everyday use. So I managed to track down a Meike and Wepoto handgrips for them and the cameras now fit perfectly in the hand. Not easy things to find though for some reason.

    Buying gear

If I can buy used from a UK dealer or on here I prefer to do so. Most of my gear has been bought this way. But I did buy my Z7ii plus 24-120 from Panamoz as it was cheaper than buying body only used in the UK. And I bought a 100-400 telephoto from there too as I couldn’t find a used one in the...

Good Evening From The Land Of Perpetual Sunshine

There is a fondness for exotic animals round Chorley. There is (or was) a guy in Euxton who had an emu that he’d walk on a lead, never saw him myself but some friends have View: https://youtube.com/shorts/ZdUoZJvdipA?si=Nc1lgVDRM23GTJB7

Good Evening From The Land Of Perpetual Sunshine

As an exiled Boltonian (now in Chorley), I can vouch for the glorious weather! Anyway, welcome along!

    Beginner Nikon 24-70mm & 24-120mm

The 24-70 F4 was my first lens when I went to the Z system, but I followed it with a 24-120 lens within a few months. That’s on my Z7ii 80% of the time as it’s so versatile, but my daughter has been using the 24-70 a lot on my Z6ii a lot of late and when I looked at one of the files I was...

What's the point of mirrorless cameras?

Smaller lenses and bodies / less weight. That is all. Couldn’t really care less about the other bells and whistles, in fact I didn’t even know about most of them until I read this discussion.
