    Beginner Back button focus

I can’t remember off hand for the 3400, but you might be able to reassign the AE Lock to the function button, which means you can use the deticate AE-L for focus? Again, not sure on your model though.

Beginner Focusing at night. & exposure

A trick some of us Astro photographers use is pre focusing at invinty. Basically, during the day, focus on something far enough away so that you’re at infinity, then either take a note of where the focus marker is on the lens, or use bit of tape with a mark on it.. that way, at night, focusing...

50mm Suggestions for my Nikon F3

[Not having a dig] Sharpness isn't everything :) My Nikon 58 1.4G isn't as sharp as the infamous Sigma 50 1.4 ART, but has way way more character!! Give me my 58mm any day of the week :)

50mm Suggestions for my Nikon F3

How about the Voigtländer Nokton 58mm f/1.4 for something a little 'different'? I personally use the Nikon 58mm 1.4G, but on a D5 & D850 - a lens with amazing character!!

Thank you :) Not so much directly around me... Sunderland has limited opportunities lol ;) But of course, we do have Northumberland, North Yorkshire, The Lakes and The Peak District within a hours drive... plus Scotland not that far up North; well, not that far if you don't sleep :)

removing white outline on high contrast edges

Not sure if someone has answered this correctly, but there's an easy fix for this (actually, 2 but I'll only talk about one for now).... Open your image in photoshop (doh), Select the 'Healing Brush Tool', set it's mode to darken and brush over the white line that goes around your subject. Make...

    The Post Processing System/Pathway

I wasn't knocking Raw, or its capabilities - I shoot raw; All I was saying, was that from a 'noobs' point of view, they should be concentrating on learning the art of photography first, which in turn over time will give them a lot more knowledge when it comes round to shooting in raw, and...

    The Post Processing System/Pathway

If you are new to photography, step away from raw... Learn how to compose your photographs, learn how to get the best out your camera and functions; learn how to read your histogram - I take more notice of my histogram than I do of the preview image. I'm an advocate for getting it right in...

Hi Ladies and Gents!! I've been a member for a while, but had completely forgotten about the forum - I spend most of my time on Facebook (oh the joy) and Flickr; Anyway, I thought I'd pop in say hello :) I'm based in sunny Sunderland (:P), originally from South Yorkshire, but moved up here...
