Given the age of the camera it seems likely that the limitation of recording speed, number of shots in burst etc would lie with the camera. 8GB cards from 7dayshop (very reliable trader) would be as low as £12. Get two.

Depends what you mean by "cheap". No "L" lens is cheap, even used; even on ebay. The 55-250mm is great value and good quality
