    I'm struggling

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm definitely not going to quit. Just going to keep at it. I've spent most of the day reading through tutorials on here and another website I've found and playing around with the camera. I'm also considering booking onto a local DSLR workshop so I can...

    I'm struggling

Thanks guys. So just to check I understand this right. The shutter speed was way too fast because I selected too wide an aperture hece the soft image? Or is it soft because the focusing was wrong? About focusing, sometimes I choose a focus point myself and other times I let the camera choose.

    I'm struggling

I used my Canon 450d with a 50mm prime lens. f1.8 I used an ISO of 100 as it was bright mid day sunshine. The camera set the exposure at 1/4000

    I'm struggling

Harvey nikon, I mostly shoot in aperture mode and occasionally I will use manual. I find aperture mode easier when I need to get a shot pronto. With manual mode, it takes me a while to figure out the correct settings by which time I've lost the shot. But I guess its all practice. I'm...

    I'm struggling

Thanks guys. posiview, the images in my minds eyes when I am looking at a scene are pretty simple so there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to capture it on camera. I think my problem is technique. I have an understanding of the basics, ie ISO, apperture, exposure, shutter speed...

    I'm struggling

I've had my DSLR for well over a year now. I was a complete novice when I purchased it and sadly so many months later, I still am a novice. I've attended a couple of beginners workshops, I've bought a couple of recommended books and I feel I do know the basic theory. I just cannot put it...

I'd like a wide angle lens.

Thanks andyred. SparkUk, unfortunately I don't know anyone with a wide angle lens to have a go with. I suppose I could rent one though and see? Decisions, decisions. :)

I'd like a wide angle lens.

Thank you for the replies. I do intend to use it after the holiday too. I get out and about on my motorbike a fair bit and love taking my camera with me. I've just been unable to capture the landscape scenes I want so hence the need for a wide angle. Andyred, is this the 10-22mm you mean...

I'd like a wide angle lens.

I've done a quick search, but can't seem to find a specific answer, so please bear with me, I'm still not very good at this photography lark. I'd like to get a wide angle lens. I'm off to Kenya in a few weeks time and I'd like to capture landscape scenes as best as I can and I reckon a wide...

    Planning for my holidays.

I will definitely take the 70-300mm lens with me to kenya as I wont be on the bike so its weight will not be an issue. Do these weigh less than the Tamron 70-300mm? Would I be able to take wide angle shots with these? My understanding of lenses is still basic at the moment. What I...

    Planning for my holidays.

I am fortunate enough to have two lovely holidays planned for this year. The first will be in April so I need to start getting together the photography equipment I need. As a newbie I'm not too sure what I should take so I am looking for any suggestions and advice you could give me. In April...

    Do I need a flash?

Ok. Thanks guys. Will get the flash gun at the week end. Another question. Is the 50mm a wide angle lens. If not, how is it different/better than the 18-55mm that I already have (other than the f number range)?
