Probably true. People who don't have problems generally don't post reviews so I think you do need to take this with a pinch of salt.
It's true to say that it seems more likely that you might have focusing issues with the Sigma but this doesn't mean you will.
In my case, the Sigma is spot...
Both are good lenses but are rather different. If you want an absolutely bombproof lens for a round the world trip the the 17-40 is great. The 17-55 has better IQ, range and aperture but is quite a bit more fragile.
When I had the crop I went through the 18-55->17-85->17-55 and obviously the 17-55 is by far the best but despite what anyone says, it is NOT built like an L lens. It's very good consumer build sure and optically it's in the same ball park. Since I got a 5d I've got the f4 series of L zooms and...
When I had the 40D and a 10-22 I used to use the Cokin single slot holder with Hitech grads. You can see it at 10mm but it's fine by 12mm.
I have a set of soft grads (to answer your other question).
I started out with the IS version of the 18-55 and although the 17-85 is a much nicer built lens than that, it's not much better in IQ IMO. I think it's worth it's usual second hand price (£200-230) but definitely isn't worth what Canon wants for a boxed new one. The new 15-85 is apparently a...
Last winter I was out with my camera over my shoulder when I slipped on some ice and ended up on my arse. The lens hood took a whack on the ground as well. If the hood hadn't have been on, it would have been the front element that took the blow. I doubt it would've ended well.
As I posted above Jacobs have them in stock at £879.99. Shame everyone just listened to the joker really...

A bit harsh. I was using it at the weekend in a marquee, at night, in very poor light. It did hunt a little bit but wasn't that bad.
I had this combo as well and the 17-55 is a cracking lens. It depends what you shoot and how much gear you plan on carrying around. Sometimes I would carry all three at others just the 17-55. Because I used to shoot a lot around 17mm this made the most sense to me. If you tend to shoot longer...
Did they actually do it pre-emptively? I rang the other day and was told they'd only do it if your mirror had actually fallen off.
Who did you get to do it? Canon UK?
