Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

well, I think what's becoming obvious from this thread is sealed is often a virtual state, meaning not yet opened. there is no sign of a seal to break/broken - does seem crazy, as most everything in life comes in a sealed box. that's why the first thing I did when I got home was paid to eos...

    3rd party batteries

the problem is you would have to prove it was a fake. I would be surprised if anyone would try to fake a hahnel, or if a bona fide shop would sell fake gear

    3rd party batteries

I bought a 2nd canon battery off amazon for about £40 for my 40d years ago, and it was rubbish (clearly a fake). so I bought some hahnel batteries from a decent mail order camera shop for about £20 each - they were fantastic (better than original battery for charge life). buy from eBay or...

    full frame

One of the biggest frustrations I had with my 40D was with the ISO performance, which is why I've just gone FF (5Diii). It's great for landscape, etc. But if you want to do anything with really poor light, or with action (thus want a decent shutter speed), then I found myself compromising the...

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

That's exactly my point. I asked for help, I got great help from this forum. I followed your collective advice, the shop agreed that there had been an issue, and they resolved it instantly and without any fuss. I think it has also made everyone think twice when they spend their money, to...

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

thanks. when going thru the menu tonight, I noticed on one was an option for battery. when I clicked on it, it had battery percent used, but also said 'shutter count 0'. only time will tell (unless someone else knows) whether this is total shutter count, or indeed something to do with the...

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

So I spoke to the person at the shop, explained how I'd come to first think there were 5,500 previous shutter releases (due to using unformatted card), and then found with EOS Count there had been 1,600 or so in fact. He wasn't at all surprised (so at least we didn't have the fake "not when...

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

Well, I certainly started a lively debate with this, didn't I - apologies for the delay in coming back with a response, but it took until late this afternoon for me to speak to the appropriate person in the shop. The great news is revealed by the following picture ....

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

Yes, I paid full price for it, as advertised on their website, etc. It has definitely not been priced as an ex-demo. Like you, I'm very interested in what they say, and what they offer as options. Thanks, Simon

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

I spoke to the shop today, and they are waiting for the person who served me to be back in tomorrow. I don't plan to name the shop, and hopefully they will deal with this as the good will that I would expect for this. IF they don't, be assured that I will advise who they are in case...

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

Thanks for the clarification/comment - it all helps put my mind at ease that I'm not being overly touchy about this. Thanks

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

So, I installed EOS Count, and the answer I got back is that it has shot 1,892 times. I have taken approximately 200 of them, so I guess I need to have a discussion with the shop about whether they think it's ok to decsribe it and sell it as new, if it's had well over 1,500 shutter actuations....

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

Thank you all for the lively debate. I will have a look at the eos count option first, and I'm sure that will put my mind at rest. And then as you say, I can get back to enjoying my new purchase :)

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

I knew there was a good reason to ask people's opinion on this! I would say that it's close enough to where I was on the old (unformated) card to assume it's what has happened here. Although I do think I used an SD card which was clean first, but because I deleted the first few images on...

Is the camera I bought really "new" if it has had 5,500 shots taken on it?

Hi, I'm looking for people's opinion to see if they agree if I am worrying about nothing. I bought a 5d mkiii a week ago, in a shop I went to in person - I'm not going to name the shop, as that is not the purpose of the thread. Suffice it to say, this is a decent shop, and we're not...
