Hi all,
Some of you may have seen some of my posts already, but in the interest of getting more involved in the community I thought I'd officially say hi!
I currently Live in Christchurch and work in Portsmouth so generally around Dorset and Hampshire. Recently changed all my kit from...
By 1:1 do you mean a full power flash? With ETTL deciding I wouldn't know, unless the exif contains data on it. I can tell you with my relatively short lived experience with it I haven't had a situation where it hasn't had enough power. I shoot in manual and let ETTL do the rest - so it would be...
That is my understanding yes. I am sure the 580 as a master can trigger the 430 EX II as a slave in the same way the newer bodies can, but I don't know if the 580 does any more singing or dancing other than its increased range.
To be honest I am using my 430 EX II with a Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8...
If I understand you correctly, there is no reason you can't in the future upgrade to a 600D/60D/7D etc which has the wireless trigger functionality. You can also buy a wireless flash trigger for the 550D which plugs into the hotshoe - i'm sure someone else in the know will be able to recommend...
I have just returned from Munich on my first major trip out with my recent "upgrades". I have just switched over from a Micro Four Thirds Setup (I had an SLR previously, moved away to mirrorless and then back again ). Most of my gear I took on this trip was new so I thought it would be...
I'd prefer not to get the retailers names involved, but I have used 2 different ones. Both well respected UK independents - no grey imports here.
Why do you ask?
Latest update:
I received my replacement today, another brand new lens. Still not a perfect example, focusing is slightly out - noticeable on the shortest depths of field against a ruler. One speck of dust behind the lens.
Much better example than the other two I've had so this one will be a...
The back focus was less severe at the wide and more severe at the long end, but it was moving yes. Also, I did test other lenses so I'm sure it's not a body issue.
I'm not sure how you reached the conclusion of "a wee bit of front or back focus" out of "back focusing by some way".
It...
Thanks for the responses all.
I do understand the basic mechanics of a zoom lens, and as I said I wouldn't normally have fussed had these not been quite so obvious.
The focus issue is more of a problem - my 18-55 kit focus absolutely bang on, so why should I settle for a back focus on a...
I am now facing exchanging for a third 17-55mm IS USM lens. The first had two large dust particles - something I would't normally fuss about but this really was dead centre and quite obvious. The second was totally clean but was back focusing by some way.
I know it doesn't have the 'L'...
Have you considered a used Canon 15-85mm? You might pick one up between £350 to £400. They are available for £499 unboxed from kit brand new.
From what I hear they are about as sharp as EFS lenses get and an extra few mm on the wide angle. 4 stop IS too.
There are some widely appreciated lenses on this format, namely the 20mm f1.7 and 14-140mm f4-5.8. I got some good shallow DOF but you do have to work a bit harder to get it.
I had a Pana G2, and if you are aren't bothered about the touch screen or video I think the G1 will serve you well...
