    Canon 5D2 v Canon 5D3

AF system can handle different situations well on the 5D3. It's less hit and miss. A lot less. Learn to use it properly and it serves very well indeed. Much better with people shots wide open on fast glass. Nails focus most of the time.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Owners Thread

The 5D used to be the way the majority of 'enthusiast photographers' entered full frame with Canon cameras. I fall into that category 100%. That held true for the 5D2 as well. However the launch of the 6D changed things. Now Canon brand the 5D4 as a professional camera and have given it a price...

AF Microadjustment for Canon Cameras & Lenses

Just to add MFA on the 5DIII can be different with a 1.4x extender attached. The camera can remember the values for both and change accordingly. Focal for me is very reliable. 135L, 135L+1.4x, 85 1.8 and 50 1.4 All spot on. Not sure about third party lenses yet.

    Auto focus or manual

I see from your camera bag, you've got a 50 f1.4 prime. At f1.4 you'll struggle to get spot on focus manually especially with the small viewfinder on the 600D. Smaller apertures are generally more forgiving, because the Depth of Field is wider. So though you may miss the focus, more of the...

    Canon 50mm f1.4 USM

I used to be worried, but now it doesn't bother me. Ask for permission with children, but with adults I just shoot. If people say anything, I just tell them I'm a street photographer and let them see the images. In 5 years I've only had one person want them deleted. And probably one in 20 say...

    Canon 5D MKIII battery grip

Had the Pixel Vertax grip for 5D3 for Christmas. Shutter release not working from new :( Reviews seem quite positive for this grip, following initial problems with power draining. When I get the exchange unit, I'll have a better idea, but TBH my first impressions aren't favourable. Seems cheap...

How do I make the background more white in Lightroom

Totally agree. Harsh on camera Flash. Even the child's expression says nothing. So much for the op to learn before worrying about correcting anything post.

    Suggested Canon kit for Weddings

Good for close up detail @1.4. Also pre focus to around 8ft @ f5.6 then switch to mf and leave the focus alone. Anything from 6-12ft will be sharp, so you can run around snapping away on the dance floor in low light without worrying about AF hunting. Just check exposure occasionally.

Will my Canon & Sigma lenses fit a 5D mk2?

The 10-20 will fit, but the image at 10mm will have a black circular vignette.

    new prime lens?

If I were buying a 50 again, I think it'd be the Sigma 1.4. I have the Canon 1.4 and 1.8, but the IQ from a borrowed Sigma is better in the corners. The build also feels better than the Canons.

    new prime lens?

In your original post, you said you were 'considering a new prime lens.' You are also planning to get a full frame camera soon. People tend to go for primes over zooms for a few reasons. Image quality is generally thought to be better with primes, though the difference is less with some of the...

Eggs in Baskets aka Your maximum gb memory card

Did the card work afterwards? If not, did you consider that it could be due to mechanical failure? CF specifications normally quote an MTTF for the mechanical connection of 10,000 insertions. It doesn't worry me too much these days because my primary 5D3 I usually have an SD recording jpgs...

Eggs in Baskets aka Your maximum gb memory card

Never had a card fail. Always use biggest I can, reputable brands (Sandisk, Lexar). I think that aside from losing or having cards stolen, then mechanical failure is the next most likely reason to lose images. Keep pulling them out and re-inserting them? Not for me.

    Haida 10 stop filters

Not the best recommendation as most lenses do not have a hard stop at infinity. That means it's possible to set the focus beyond infinity i.e. nothing is in focus. OP > Learn about hyperfocal distance. It's a relationship between focal length and aperture that allows you to predict what will...

    Exposure Blending vs Filters

Learning to use filters properly and learning ps are equally difficult, or equally easy. Thing with filters, is if you get it wrong, it's difficult to put right afterwards. In ps, you can revisit the image as your technique improves. You need the best quality filters you can afford. Cheaper...
