There's so many variants of the cards though. We don't want to keep buying one card after the other to keep finding it doesn't work. I know the SDHC one's don't work. Do the SDXC ones work with it?

Did he buy the wrong variant of the card?
My grandfather has unearthed his D50 camera which doesn't have a memory card. He bought a SanDisk Ultra 32GB SD Card which turned out not to be compatible.
Can someone suggest an appropriate card for him to buy?
