True sadly inevitable - high street shops with all the associated costs cannot compete with on-line offerings. High end specialists like Grays and Robert White have a chance as they attract premium customers. I happen to live close to one of the large one shop on-line dealers. Chatting to some...
I bought one to use with a D700 on a road trip around California. Great for travel and the results not too bad for a holiday photo book. Down side is that in needs to be stopped down to achieve high quality output. VR helped in low light situations but not great quality. Have since revisited...
I bought the new 24-85 for an extended holiday trip and it has been fantastic. Much easier to carry all day than my 24-70. Only missed the f2.8 on a couple of occasions but the VR seems to help.
Have to say I cannot understand your loyalty to Jessops. Grays "lost" my early order so I placed an order with Park Cameras (they are local to me) four weeks later, Robert's your mother's brother, I get a call to pick up my shiny new D4. Pre increase price too!
I use them on my Nikon D3/D700 and have found them excellent. Really clear and strong protection. They do come in over the top packaging which looks great but has no long term use as they are not an item you can swap on and off the camera. Recommended
Totally agree on the meike. I have one on my 700 and bought one for my son's 7000. Not the same construction as the Nikon but quality is excellent for the £130 odd difference. Bought mine on eBay from a UK based dealer and they arrived in two days.
