    Getting into digital film-making

That's a bit of a tricky one, as part-time courses like that likely won't offer you the level of knowledge and immersion that makes film school beneficial, as well as losing a lot of the networking aspect. What I would probably recommend doing is to read. A lot. There's an unbelievable amount of...

    DSLR microphone sub £30 options

The main reason to buy a microphone like these isn't that they're inherently higher quality than the on-board microphone on your camera, but because you're able to get them off of the camera and closer to the subject. For dialogue especially, if you have the microphone just sat on top of the...

Budget fluid heads - are they worth it?

Glad to hear it! You should stick up a couple of photos too ;)

Budget fluid heads - are they worth it?

Take a look for yourself: View: https://youtu.be/_cADvFTIb40 The system as a whole is solid as a rock. I was amazed at how easy bowl heads make life too! Edit: Didn't want to embed the video! Silly auto-formatting.

Budget fluid heads - are they worth it?

I've got the tallest fc270 that fancier sell, and it really is fantastic. I don't find it lacking in any way performance wise, but be warned that they weigh an absolute ton and don't pack down very small at all. I took mine on a walk through some woods and wished I'd brought something more...

Aputure AL-528 LED panels - anyone got any experience?

I've got one of these and they're brilliant (especially that you can charge the batteries whilst powering the unit). Only downside I've found is they're not very bright compared to traditional tungsten lamps, but they're infinitely more portable and don't roast your subject alive, daylight...

How would you light this to avoid the shadows?

How about just flagging off the edges of a gridded softbox then tidying it up with some dodging/burning in post?

Tascam 70D - Any reason not to purchase?

I just got mine from eBay - good a place as any!

Tascam 70D - Any reason not to purchase?

If you're in a room that has some background noise, maybe a computer running or a road outside or something like that, then often that ambient noise will be louder than the noise of the preamps. It's not a good thing per se, because it means you're still not getting a clean recording, but I'd...

Tascam 70D - Any reason not to purchase?

I've just gotten a DR-70D after having owned a DR-40. Preamps are great compared to the DR-40, which is about equivalent to a Zoom H4N. They've got a good amount of gain and are pretty clean considering the price and size of the thing; generally I've found with it that unless I'm in a...

Who has videos on youtube? Post your links etc!

The LUTs I'm using at the minute are James Miller's DeLUTs, which I've been applying through Premiere CC if I'm feeling lazy, or for more serious work DaVinci Resolve. Resolve has the ability to very easily export looks that you're working on as cube LUTs which is nice!

It's great to see video getting more attention around these parts. Some fantastic drone work too! Here's something I shot to test out some new LUTs:

    Bargains Thread

Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, west yorks cameras are having another sale on their film, and they have a discount code on their facebook to get another couple of quid off - works out at 8 rolls for £17.50!

    Softening my strobes

You can move the lights further away, but that gives you harder light, or you can put filters over the strobes to chop light that way. By far the easiest method however is to just stick a neutral density filter onto your lens and fire away, that way you can easily get exposures at <f2.8 with far...

    Finished my 365

I normally disregard 365's at they tend to look like a rushed collection of snapshots, but I've got to hand it to you that's an impressive gallery! I like your style a lot, very enjoyable to view :-)
