    Rangefinder recommendations (analogue)

Hi everyone, I’m looking to document my work in the countryside on b&w film. I want to be able to carry a camera around with me when I’m working, so I want something either inexpensive, or bomb proof! (Ideally both). It needs to be smallish, but not tiny. Any ideas?

And painters know what they’re talking about. They’ve been doing it for centuries longer than us photographers!

Camera buying advice for a friend

I have a friend who is going to costa rica for a few months and has asked for advice on a camera. Her budget is £400, which is flummoxed me, as I don't really have my finger on the pulse of cameras in the price range. There are plenty of body-only ILCs I can think of in that range, but I don't...

Do you use a tripod for studio portraits?

    Do you? Why? Why not?

So what's new with cameras? Looking for a small interchangable lens camera!

I’d get on the fujifilm bandwagon. You specified interchangeable lens so the x100 series is out. XE series is good if you’re happy with the rangefinder style. I have an XT3, which is amazing. Not the smallest but tiny compared to D800. Plus much smaller lenses.

What editing/processing has taken place in these?

The last 2 are both back-lit with golden-hour sunlight. With the dog, he’s getting beautiful, diffused side-light from the window(s) of the church or whatever that he’s in. He pops because the background is darker and he being lit with a nice large, diffuse light source. The first one looks cool...

    EBay item arrived broken

I’ve started a return request and eBay will get involved if there’s no response within 3 days. If it was just the modelling bulb it wouldn’t matter but I think the main bulb is damaged.

    EBay item arrived broken

To be honest, the packaging was a bit rubbish - everything was wrapped in paper, but no actual cushioning. The flash had a metal covering over the bulb but I still smashed so RM must have given it some rough handling…

    EBay item arrived broken

I bought a Godox flash from eBay and it arrived with the modelling lamp smashed and a bit loose in the main flash bulb. I’ve sent a message to the seller but is there any advice on how to claim compensation? I’m guessing it’s the sellers responsibility to claim back any money from Royal Mail….

Beginner Moving subjects and intentional blur, help needed.

If it’s not blurry and streaky enough you need a longer shutter speed. In the daytime your minimum shutter speed will be limited by the light. I.e. if your shutter speed is too long your image will be overexposed (see the exposure triangle). If your ISO is at its lowest (eg 64, 100, 160, 200...

    Recommend me a light modifier!

I’ve just purchased a Godox MS300 and need a modifier. I was thinking about something like this https://www.lencarta.com/shop-by-categories/lencarta-redline-pro-fold-octa-softbox-120cm Is 120cm a bit big for shooting with a standard height ceiling?? Would a 95cm be better? Should I get...

    Posing sitting at a table

I’ve noticed a few portrait photographers (Ivan Weiss and Sean Tucker to name a couple) who seem to favour posing people sitting at a table, with arm/elbows resting on the table. This seems like quite a smart move - brings the chin forward, feels more natural for non-models for whom standing or...

    This doesn’t bode well.

I used to love shooting film but I don’t anymore because it costs too much. You’re now paying £10 for Color plus. I’m sure that’s what portra used to cost! Such a shame.
