I went to the Friday, in the rain in 2012 and 2013. Most of the grandstands are usually open for roaming all day so plenty of chance to get good shots. During the F1 sessions expect them to be full, but quickly empty during the support race sessions.
If you can get into it - the far right hand...
I was there Sunday, I guess sound_system didn't find the pit-lane in-road which was free of fencing and you could stand right next to:
From the stands there were some decent shots available, with a steady hand:
The podium was excellent, set-up in the main fan-zone so everyone could see it...
Looks like a real photographic challenge this one - probably high fencing throughout.
Last few tickets available for Sunday.
I look forward to seeing photos.
Yes, for safety you will probably not be allowed to stand on any level places with only small tyre walls - if you see one of the trucks come off an not even slow down through gravel and tyre walls you will know why!

However, I recall most of...
A bit late - but I enjoy Rockingham, provides some great and very different shots. You will need either a loooong lens or willingness to crop heavily (my budget limited option!).
Top of the garages is great, can get really good looking speed shots. The long views to the infield provide some...
I was pretty happy with the view from the T1 grandstand, only opened on the BTCC weekend, although I didn't attend this year (Santa Pod Euro Finals were on). Gives you a chance for some great action shots of the pack racing on the in-field...
Thanks for the replies. I couldn't remember my password to log on from my phone, but they were useful. The weather just about held on Sunday, hope any else there had a good time.
I took the 70-300 (on an FX) in the end and it was useful to getting close-ups of the riders in the river, although...
Hi folks,
I have relatives who live within walking distance of Appleby and have invited us up next weekend to see the horse fair. I have seen some photos from the event but I was wondering if anyone had any advice - better to take a long or short lens and are there any activities or people that...
I use nothing more than my kit lens. Getting the right angle is more important than the lens.

Hi folks,
Thanks to a conveniently timed family wedding in California, I am heading home via Alabama and going to the Aarons 499 at Talladega.
Has anyone been to Talladega or a NASCAR race, obviously the seating is a loooooooooong way back if you want a good view (we are high up in one of the...
Fact is the sort of creative, super-slow pan shots proudly displayed on this forum are very clever, but not the sort of images that the teams or series want. Look at Autosport for example, the majority of shots in there are probably 1/1000+ because they want a simple picture to illustrate a...
Did you get to see the Euro-NASCARs on the support package, they were there 2012, not sure if they were on it before. Real door-handle racing and seemed perfectly suited to the Indy circuit short-track layout.
Far better than F1 or MotoGP, us regular folk can get into the paddock and pit lane at a DTM event without needing a new mortgage.
Bit of a shame for UK fans (although too far for me to do again anyway) but the racing wasn't the best. Was rather hoping to see them at a real circuit like...
Wouldn't put too much money on this getting completed - they have promised 750,000 visitors a year and huge employment boost for the region, far in excess of that of any other British circuit. No talk yet of noise restrictions...
I have a Nikon D600 and the presence of two "User" settings on the main dial is very useful - I have one set for high speed, usually 1/1600 (great for the start of races and "action moments") and another set to a suitable panning speed (between 1/200 and 1/400 depending on the circuit) so I can...
