The 1D IV has so many more virtues than just the AF though (the biggest improvement in the 5DIII).

28-300 IS. It was great till I realised how slow it was compared to a 70-200 IS. Got my money back on it selling it 17 months later.

Well I'm bloody impressed! It feels lighter to hold but definitely focuses faster and is silent in use. Here is a 100 % crop..... oh and that was handheld with a 2X Extender III !!!!

Once you go 1 series you will never go back. When I had one of mine stolen my wife asked if I wanted something like a 7D. My response: I wouldn't P*ss on a 7d if it was on fire. Accept no substitute.
